One, you're allowed to increase your bid. Two, while everyone expects Richardson to pick the highest bidder, he's not guaranteed to do that, and the NFL has been lobbying for him to choose Tepper.

Just saw an item online that said Tepper sold off a bunch of airline stock. Didn't think anything about it at the time, and don't know how much he got for it, but it occurs to me that he could conceivably be seeking some liquid cash in preparation to up his bid.

I wouldn't bet on that alone being enough to make up the difference, but it could be part of something larger.

Because he's the guy the NFL wants and the other owners have to approve the sale.

Ultimately though, he's probably gonna have to increase his bid if he ultimately wants to be chosen. I don't think for a moment that he's unaware of this. He's probably just trying to see exactly how much of a lowball offer he can get away with.

New York Times reported that he had, but he actually didn't.
