CBS Sports 7 Round Mock Draft with trades

Recommended Posts

Hypothetically, How many spots would next year’s 3rd move us up in the 2nd this year.

Those are the players I want but like others am leery of losing a top 100 pick to do it. I think there will be very good WR/RB/TE options there at 85 and 88.

I don’t think Penny last that long, and I rather keep the picks

This ^  Also we have too many needs to be giving away top-100 picks, especially to move up in the second for a safety.

Bates or White + Sweat or Hamilton or Thomas over just Reid.

On top of the fact that, after this draft, there will still be a sh1t-ton of competent safeties available in free agency that are desperate for a contract.

And not one of them can provide even decent ability in coverage from the FS position. Something this team has lacked for a long time. Signing one of them for SS and getting rid of Adams and/or Searcy would be great. But we need an upgrade in range and athleticism at FS in the worst way.

And a 2nd round rookie is a stone-cold guarantee?  One you've flushed a top-100 pick for?

No one is a guarantee. But the S’s left on the market have proven over time that they can’t. I’d rather take a chance on an athletic, young, cheap player with great instincts.

As for “flushing” a top 100 pick, I said I wouldn’t trade a pick to move up for Reid. So no idea where that’s going?

I would be ok with next year’s 3rd or even usin our 5th and a 7th to get a 4th round.  But I don’t want to give up our 4 top 100 this year.

Using our second and next year’s 3rd to get: Reid, Bates, Miller, Hurst, Gesecki might be tolerable. But still not ideal.

I could see us doing that if we go WR in round one. Then there is a possibility that CB Oliver is there in the early second. I might be ok with that.  But not to double up on 2 secondary spots.

I have read that Eric Reid has good coverage skills and can absolutely play as a FS on short to intermediate routes, but is a little more limited on deeper routes.

We could do worse.

Almost any S can cover on short to intermediate routes. And considering we have Luke, TD and/or Shaq, and a limited SS, we don’t need a FS who can’t cover in space. We have plenty of guys who can only cover those routes.

The real  question would be whether there is enough in his game to indicate that he is at least serviceable (and maybe even improve) relative to allow us to picking up other positions in the draft (provided that we would look towards signing him or another vet after the draft of course).

    • Been here a while but rarely post and most of them are smartazz. Mostly lurk just so I can sound informed while hanging out drinking beer in my neighbors garage. Amusingly a Huddle level of knowledge kind of makes you a subject matter expert. Thanks for that.
    • That’s similar as saying MVP Cam is the same as rookie Cam because his mechanics didn’t change. We’re talking about production.
    • In 2025 Sam Darnold had over 1k more passing yards than Bryce Young on 1 less pass attempt. Repeat that to yourself several times and let it sink in. I absolutely love it when people come on here and invoke Sam Darnold like some gotcha. Darnold is the physical prototype for what anyone needs in a franchise QB. All the physical tools. Few people thought he would put it all together on the mental side of the position. He used to make some of the worst decisions you would ever see. At times in the past he made up for that with absurd throws and athleticism. But make no mistake whatsoever no matter how you feel about our starting QB. Bryce Young is a completely opposite conundrum. He lacks virtually any and all physical tools and athleticism and his elite processing is really mediocre at best on a good day and horrific on a bad day. These are realities people should have already been addressing instead of quadrupling down in year four.
