All of this info was found on this site: https://panthergf.wordpress.com/2018/01/18/2018-draft-prospect-visit-workout-meeting-list/

Here are some observations I've made from that list. Lets start with highest number of prospects we have met with by position.

  • WR'S = 16
  • CB'S = 14
  • RB'S = 13
  • DE'S = 11
  • Guard's = 10
  • QB'S = 7
  • Safeties = 6
  • TE'S = 6
  • LB'S = 6
  • DT'S = 5
  • Tackles = 5
  • Center = 4 (At least 3 can double down as guard's)

Safety – Jessie Bates III, Wake Forest

Cornerback – Jaire Alexander, Louisville

Tight End – Hayden Hurst, South Carolina

Defensive End – Duke Ejiofor, Wake Forest

Hurney went to these pro days this year. Alabama, Arkansas,LSU,  Va Tech, Penn State, and USC

Players that Hurney attended their pro day and had a private visit with : Ridley, Ragnow, Payne, Harrison and Donte Jackson. The 1st 4 are considered 1st round talents.

In regard's to Payne we met with him at his pro day March 7th, then had him in for private visit on the 20th. Poe was signed on the 15th.

Few other things of note

  • Of all the corner's we brought in for a private visit none are over 6 feet.
  • Jackson had the fastest 40 time for corners (4.32), Alexander was 6th (4.38) and Dawson was 11th (4.46). Hughes was clocked at 4.53
  • Of the 4 WR's we had in for visits, they range in height from 5'11 to 6'1. With Moore and Ridley as the tallest.
  • Moore (4.42), Ridley (4.43) and Kirk (4.46) all posted similar 40 times. Miller didn't run at the combine but was clocked between 4.46-4.52 at his pro day
  • Chubb is 5'11 228, ran a 4.52 40 and Penny is 5'11 220, ran a 4.46 40.
  • For reference on the RB's. Stewart was 5'11 235 and ran a 4.48 40 coming out in 08.

Condensed list of players from top 30 visits that are most likely to be taken in the first round.

  • Calvin Ridley (Private visit and Hurney met with him at Pro day)
  • Jaire Alexander
  • DJ Moore
  • Ronnie Harrison  (Private visit and Hurney met with him at Pro day)
  • Frank Rangnow (Private visit and Hurney met with him at Pro day)
  • Justin Reid
  • Mike Hughes
  • James Daniels
  • D'aron Payne  (Private visit and Hurney met with him at Pro day)
  • Hayden Hurst

More on private visits of 1st round prospects

  • Alexander met with the teams holding the 7th,10th, 11th, 12th, 25th and 32nd picks
  • For Ronnie Harrison it was teams holding the 18th, 19th,23rd,29th and 32nd picks
  • Hughes met with teams holding these picks, 7th, 8th,14th, 27th, 30th and 32nd
  • Ridley met the cowboys (19th) and the Patriots (23rd)
  • Hurst met with the Ravens(16th) Lions (20th) and Jags (29th)
  • Moore met with the Bills(12th and 22nd), Cowboys (19th)Patriots (23rd)
  • Ragnow met the Bills(12 and 22), Bengals(21st) and Vikings (30th)
  • Reid and Daniels have a laundry list of private visits, that most likely peg them late 1st or early 2nd.

Random thoughts/takeaways from this:

  • I find it interesting the 2 corners did not have more mutual private visits. Only the Bucs, us and Eagles had private visits with both.
  • Josh Jackson feels weird to be omitted from our top 30 visits, based on his other visits Bucs, Bears,Niners and Dolphins he may not be in range at 24
  • Isaiah Wynn was another name I thought was curiously missing, however it appears he did not do any private visits this year
  • The Cowboys and Patriots appear to be our biggest threat to Ridley and Moore if they get  past the Ravens. Btw the Ravens only brought in 1 highly rated receiver and it was Michael Gallup.
  • Ridley(1st), Moore(2nd),Daniels(3rd),Hughes(3rd),Alexander(5th) Hurst(1st), Harrison(3rd), Reid (4th), Bates (5th) Payne(2nd) and Chubb(5th) all crack Mayocks top 5 and had private visits lined up with.
  • I feel like Hurney's preference in round 1 is, WR (Ridley or Moore), then Corner (Alexander,Hughes) then Ragnow and finally Hurst if all of those guys are gone.
  • If we miss on an elite corner in round 1 then I think we focus on RB,Safety and WR/interior o-lineman in round 2. Obviously any position taken in round 1 would likely fall off the 2nd round radar.

Very realistic options, another option could be to trade out of the 1st round entirely. Teams like the Browns and Bills have the amunition to move back into the 1st round.

Remind me... Gettleman always drafted a player in round 1 who had been brought into Charlotte for a visit. But I don’t believe that was the case for Hurney.  I remember him trying to hide his intentions so another team wouldn’t jump ahead and poach a player.

Yeah, I think that's accurate as I recall.

WR or CB for me. Although I know we need help at Guard, I hope we don't draft one in the first round. I don't want to stay up all night waiting for our pick, only for us to take some random interior offensive lineman from Wisconsin that I've never heard of lol.

I've mostly seen both of these mocked to the 3rd rd, so that tells you what our plan is.
