Jeremiah's final mock: Mock Draft 4.0

Baker Mayfield at #1

Saquon Barkley at #2

Jets take Sam Darnold at #3

Bills trade up and take Josh Allen at #4

Bucs get Derwin James (@%$#)

Local kid Jaire Alexander goes to the Packers at 14.

Two TEs go in short order as the Ravens take Dallas Goedert and the Cowboys take Hayden Hurst.

Frank Ragnow goes to the Bengals.

Patriots take Lamar Jackson at the pick just in front of the Panthers.

And at 24, the Panthers take...Isaiah Oliver.

Still available at the Panthers pick: Harold Landry, Mike Hughes, Mike Gesicki, Isaiah Wynn and DJ Moore, who Jeremiah has falling out of the first. Local kid Mason Rudolph also doesn't make it to the first either (many have projected he could).

I like Oliver and I wouldn’t be upset if we take him at #24, but in that scenario I’d rather have Moore or Landry. Norv seems to love Moore and lord knows we’ve needed help at WR seemingly forever. But, I think Landry is our blue goose this year. I think he’s the best pure pass rusher in this draft and you don’t often get a crack at a guy like that in the 20s. I think he needs to add some strength and weight to hold up against the run as a 4-3 DE but we would have the luxury of being able to use him in a rotational designated pass rushing role this year with Peppers and Addison as starters.

Here's Mayock's final mock for comparison.

NFL.com

Darnold is #1 here.  Both guys have Derwin James to the Bucs, Jaire Alexander to the Packers and Frank Ragnow to the Bengals. Mayock has Lamar Jackson being taken by the Ravens.

Panthers take Calvin Ridley over D J Moore (who goes to the Saints) and Hatden Hurst (Jags).

Uh oh...

Offensive tweets made by Josh Allen in high school unearthed

Quote

The tweets, all of which have since been deleted, were published by Yahoo Sports. Some contain some racially insensitive, and well, just stupid messages. The kind of things dumb high school kids say, if those high school kids grow up without realizing there are certain words they don’t get to say, even if they use the casual version that ends with an “-a” (though there were a few that include the full “N” word).

Rumors floating around that Payton likes Lamar Jackson from Louisville. Wouldn’t be surprised if the kid goes in the early teens.

Im trying not to remember that we have Hurney running this draft. Hopefully Turner has his ears and he is listening.

Well yeah. I mean, the guy has a life, you know?

From the story...

Although the NFL said it hoped Garcia would come to the event regardless of whether or not the Bucs actually had a pick for him to announce, Garcia wrote on Twitter that he sees no point.

“I took myself out,” Garcia wrote. “There’s not a pick & there’s not time for me to just hang out, Dad first. Proud of my time as a Buc, love the fans. I left everything on the field for that team, broken nose, broken back, a NFC South Div Title. No regrets. Hope that they have a great draft.”

Garcia also seemed to think that media coverage of his “could care less” remark painted him unfairly, writing, “the media grabs only what they see as controversial and exploits it without any repercussions.”

So...yeah.

    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
    • looks like the Lions and Bangles should forget about the playoffs, trade everyone they can, and start over.
