UDFA watch - Brendan Mahon - G - Penn State

Brendan Mahon  - Penn St - 6'4 320

I am going to keep an eye on this kid throughout camp. Panthers desperately need depth along the o-line and this guy had success at left guard and also right tackle for a legit football program. Panthers paid him the higher end of the UDFA cash, so they apparently think there may be something as well.

He played LT in 2016 as well.  I watched some tape and he looked good, but he did give up a sack early.  Not a T, but I see G who can backup T in a jam- glad you started this thread.

And if he makes the team, he will have beat out 23 other Guards.  Talk about throwing numbers at a problem..

I sincerely believe, by the way, that Rivera wants Moton at  Left Tackle.  He can bench Matty Nice if he has a quality backup.  Norwell II would certainly be a gift, and that is what they are looking for.

I read he is a better run blocker than pass blocker.  One of the guys opening up holes for barkley.

Gotta admit tho Norwell spoiled me, 6'6  monster with a mean streak. I hope this guy replace him but that is still big shoes to fill.

Yeah, Norwell was such a wonderful story and great player.

Sadly, Penn State's line was trashed by many going into the draft for their lack of interior blocking resulting in Barkley trying to push every play to the outside.

Maybe he'll turn out?  Man, that would be nice.  Were I him, I'd call up Norwell and see what I had to do to try to match his success.

Norwell wasn't good at all as far as strength and speed.

If there was a combine drill for mean though....

Your "Norwell Smash" pictures throughout the years have been some of my favorites.  The rage he had on the field was truly special.

Based off last year, we probably need more “better run blocker” guys.

Idk what your talking about Norwell displayed tremendous strength maintaining bull rush from premiere DTs and showed his speed in pulling plays.

    • lol Honestly, it might sound dumb, but I've had this idea in my head of a specific picture I really want to get with him since draft night. Basically I want it to be of the two of us sitting on the floor next to each other with the picture from behind.  Ideally it would have been with us both wearing T-Mac jerseys (and me wearing an Arizona hat that has block A logo on the back of it too), but since they won't have baby versions of those for a bit and that does seem like a waste of money on something he'll grow out of in a few months, I think I'll go with this that I've found on Amazon for like 12 bucks........ I'll get this made with T-Mac's #4 but then my Nephew's first name (which incidentally starts with a T, so I've already joked to my sister that she needs to change his middle name to something with "Mc" or "Mac" in it so i can call him T-Mac lol) Just think that would make for a really cool picture for me to have of him at this age (just over 13 months now), with the two of us wearing our #4's.  It's the type of thing I can absolutely see myself getting it printed out by Shutterfly on one of those canvas like prints to hang on my wall. And seeing as they live in NYC with me in Michigan, not sure the next time I'll see him again as I can't just drive on down the street for a picture when the jersey arrives, so was hoping I'd be able to take advantage of seeing them at the end of the month to get this picture, but it would all be dependent on the jersey (and this custom onesie) being shipped in time.
    • Just wear another jersey and have AI photoshop it lol
    • His piece of the pie is only going to get smaller unless there are serious injuries.  Unless the actual pie becomes that much larger, ie Bryce being Kurt Warner, I don't think there's room for him to breakout.  Just like there's not room for JT Sanders to break out beyond a couple hundred yards receiving and a few TDs. I don't think a lot of people understand the volume that XL got last year.
