Steve Smith....lets put this to a end

You guys want us to forget about arguably the greatest Panther ever to suit up because he got in a fight at practice. Once or twice.

Statue maybe, ring of honor is a no doubter.  Stop nickeling and diming a great player over stupid stuff.

The guy did more to put the Panthers on the map than just about anyone that has played for us.

He is a sure fire HOFer and will be our first drafted player to reach the HOF.

You guys make no sense

lets up a statue up of this guy

You've never played a competitive sport before, have you?  This isn't co-ed softball.  Those guys are all competing at the highest level of football, you damn right he's going to be pissed when its a matter of Wins or Losses.  Not everyone can provide safe spaces for your feelings.

Guy was good to the community and was never in trouble with the law/sleeping around/steroids etc.  Honestly he was a model citizen outside of football.  And even then I'd say aside from the few fights he had over his career, a model football player.

There is no way possible way we could as a organization give this dude a statue.  I really dont think he needs to be added in the ring of honor.  Smitty is out spoken and has a huge attitude, he is the definition of small man syndrome.

On behalf of other Tar Heel fans this man speaks for himself and is in no way a representation of the rest of us.

Anyone who hates Steve Smith was probably not a Panthers fan. I am just going to throw that out there. Smith was a hated player but it was always by our opponents....well, and maybe by a couple of teammates whose ass he whipped.

#89 is the best player to play for this franchise.

Everyone has an opinion, but to me, Smitty is the greatest Panther to ever suit up. THE GREATEST, including Sam Mills, Kevin Greene, Cam Newton, etc. He is what every franchise dreams to have in a player, he just happened to play WR. I don't care about a statue, but his name absolutely should be in the ring of honor. He still deserves that one day contract, Tepper make it happen.

Peppers says hey

You guys act like he was the only player ever to get into a fight with a teammate. That poo happens all the time, its always been a big deal cuz it was Smitty. I dont condone it.

What TheRed said is completely right

But he should have a place in Panthers history in some basic form, you cannot deny him that. Seems pretty simple really.

He will always be my favorite Panther ever, and that will never change!

a fight is one thing.....completely catching a guy off guard is other

I'd probably purge him from the fan base. I will submit the appropriate paperwork to have him excommunicated from the Panthers.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
