Ron Rivera Already On That BS

Tbh, it is minicamp. As another coach has said, minicamp isn’t even in discussion when it comes to competition. OTAs and Minicamp is used to implement scheme and evaluate retention.

Whatever Rivera said before minicamp is likely what he’ll say after. Competition and true evaluation shouldn’t begin until training camp. What he’s saying now is coachspeak.

Why should anyone be surprised at this.  He is the only one in the roster who has played LG in the nfl.....the other guys are rookies and guys looking to change positions.

Of course he is penciled in at the top prior to training camp.  Let the competition begin.

To me this is why he has the nod going into camp.  Sirles may have played it better but he didn't play it as a Panther.  I get why he is the "Starting LG" going into camp.

I have faith that Turner is not going to let a better player sit on the bench in HIS OFFENSE.

Getting frustrated by this quote foolish because it also conveniently leaves out the point that Rivera has made countless times, jobs are won and lost in training camp and during preseason games.

Of course Silatolu is going to be lined up at first-string right now as he is legitimately the only player familiar with how the Panthers operate as a whole.

Additionally, Silatolu and Van Roten are the only two players on the roster with significant in-game experience with the Panthers. Obviously everyone wants Moton to take hold of the position and he more than likely will, but it doesn't really matter if he is labeled as first, second, or 45th string right now as the the only thing being detailed in mini-camp is scheme installation.

Bitching about why Sirles (who graded out to be just as bad as Silatolu), Bosch, Eatmon, Hearn, Johnson, Price and Mahon are not getting a first team label just shows an irrational understanding of what minicamp truly is.

As long as Ron allows for an open and honest competition then I’m not too worried. Amini won’t win it. The fact that Ron is openly talking about hoping someone steps up gives me hope. That’s about as close as Ron will ever come to straight up saying that he’s not just going to hand the vet the job.

Depends on whether you believe Geoff Schwartz.

Schwartz recently said on the radio that the idea coaches don't know who their starters are right now is a myth. He believes that outside of additional cuts, signings etc. the depth chart is what it will be.

Is he right? Don't know, but he's been there.

I guess we'll see.

I like that hes giving amini a shot. The only reason being that he legit thibks he can win the job and bust his ass, making moton and others bust their ass. I want the competition ramped up. Makes everyone better.

This post needs more poo emojis because it’s fake outrage.

story was already reported couple months ago and being outraged that LG is an open competition leading into training camp is just plain dumb as fug

There's no reason to expect anything more than the status quo from Ron.  He's been the same limp dick coach his entire tenure here.  Silatolu will get every shot in the book to start because of Ron's inability to differentiate between hard workers("vets") and real talent.  Cam Newton has made Ron Rivera.  There is no arguing that.

I like Geoff but there is no way that the lineup in May is the line up come September.

I think he is slotted as top dog because he's the only Panther with any time at that position.

I keep saying this but Turner will have his say.   Unlike Shula, Turner will not buckle to Rivera when it comes to his offense.

I feel like we are going to need a Norwell situation for Amini not to start game 1.(basically him getting hurt to reveal a younger guy was actually ready and better than the vet Ron started) Hope I'm wrong though.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
