As I read this article a few realizations hit me which I had to share. I know all of the stuff he talked about, we all do. But when they said that Norv taught Chud everything he knew I realized we are getting the master himself not the student. Norv taught Chud all Chud knew but not everything Norv knows. We have Chud on steroids. And Norv is excited to work with Cam's unique talent. What a feather in his cap of he can coach Newton back to the big dance. I realized that Norv orchestrated who we got in free agency and the draft. He got the best talent he could find for what we could spend to make his offense the best it can be.

Then when I read Norv's pedigree it hit me that Norv knows what Rivera is thinking and needing at any time after being a head coach 3 times. After what happened in Minnesota you know he only agreed to be the OC if he gets complete autonomy to run the offense. We will have 2 head coaches, one on offense and the other for defense and special teams. Norv might be helping Rivera make those 4th and 2 decisions. Might cut done on the WTF moments. I am pretty pumped.

TL/DR Norv is the Yoda of our offense. He loves Newton, knows how to improve things. Will run the offense his way maybe deciding the 4th and 1 gambling- Nevada Norv.

When I think about Cam's first two years I couldn't help but think of how good we would have been had we had a good defense.

Not only do we have a good defense we also have, as OP stated, the Master not the protege running the show.

I cannot remember when we have had weapons like this before.   

We have 2 backs that can make something out of nothing.

We have enough WR talent that you can't double cover them all.   

And arguably the best TE in the game.

And best of all we have the most amazing QB in the game.   I think I say for the majority of posters here.   Every time touches the ball we all hold our breathe waiting to see him do something special.

I like this, but the OL talent, or lack thereof, worries the hell out of me. If the OL can exceed expectations this team could show the pundits, who unanimously dismiss any playoff showing whatsoever, that the Panthers are a legitimate SB threat regardless of how tough the NFCS is.

I have watched Cam's first game against Arizona a few times.  The offense was electric.  Some of it was Steve Smith just going off, but it showed Cam's potential.  I am really excited about this season with the weapons and coaching.

People like Colin Coherd really get on my nerves. 

I must remember to not watch those shows as only Russell Wilson. Brady. Rodgers  Dak matter

i think Cam is extraordinary on the field and hopefully Turner is able to smooth the rough edges on the diamond 

as someone said, OL a concern and fragile on defense with age and injuries but I’ll be optimistic 

i honestly would not have paid for another year of Shula

Nice post man and I agree. Since the Norv hire that’s what I’ve been thinking or let’s say hoping . 

As a leader you have to rely on the other members to be good at their role. When they are really good or great, that not only adds value to the team with their performance but encourages others to improve their work. This is true for players and equally true with coaches. 

We all know Rivera isn’t the best offensive minded coach. We all know Shula was, well let’s be kind and say, mediocre. I’m hoping Norv can not only fill the role adequately but allow Rivera to focus more on what he does best. 

If John Bonham doesn’t kill it, we don’t have Led Zeppelin. If Jimmy Page doesn’t light it up, we don’t have Led Zeppelin...JPJ... Plant....etc.

TLDR - When everyone performs their role at a high level it improves the overall success of the team. 

Ok weird rant complete. 15 days straight working/on the road so I’m in work zombie mode.

I assume you saw his top 10 fierarchy he posted.  He had Carolina #5.

I was disappointed we didn't make more moves to support the OL...as you said it seems we made moves to try to address everything else.  On paper, we look better than we did on paper in 15.  Last year 8 of 16 games were against playoff teams including the superbowl champions and runner up.   It is VERY unlikely that will happen again.  Even so, we went 11-5, with Olsen out and Cam healing his shoulder half the season.  

 I can't imagine this year being harder with AFCN and the NFCE on the schedule this year.     Saints have to play the Vikings (in Minn)  and the Eagles this year.  With the easier schedule, we have a serious shot at the playoffs.  I believe the home game against the Stains will clinch it.  

Norv is going to  be better than Shula no doubt.  Does he still have what it takes to go the distance?

Let me say that we didn't bring Norv here to trot out one of his old offensive systems and make our guys fit that mold. If he were to do that, then we'd crash and burn mightily and folks would rightly say that we grabbed a old-time coach that the league and game had passed by.

What we brought Norv here for is his vast experience and ability to craft new offenses. What we expect is something solid but tailor-made for Cam, our current O-line, CMC, Greg Olsen and an unproven WR corps. There will have to be innovations, there will need to be something that moves fast prior to and after the snap. 

Because literally, we could bring anyone in to just polish the read-option stuff that we had run into the ground. 

They want Norv to bring in what he has seen in the big picture -- what we have, what the league does, what history suggests and what possibilities haven't been tried. And I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't spend all of last season crafting just this kind of thing.

We might see a Panthers offense where we recognize the players but not the plays. And that, in my opinion, is just what we need to make #53 ours.

      ^I want that, but Rodriguez over KC. Don't hate KC as much at that spot, but rather take a WR with the pick we gain in that trade than in the 1st.

      I think there is good points in this thread to what the team needs to do. 1) Ball isn't really the issue but, he needs reigned in.  Coach and he need to realize when things aren't falling from the three and learn to play other facets of the game.  He's an amazing talent and when he's on, he's on.  But he can also shoot you out of a game.  We're lucky Miami went that way but that is too many missed threes.  He still needs to bulk up if he can, but he needs to drive more.  He's pretty good at finishing usually and hopefully the fouls come (probably not though).   2) The whole team needs to be more physical.  As others have stated, we need more bulk in our bigs.  Diabate is a hurricane of energy but cannot go against the larger centers.  I love him on the team but he should be more of a match up type guy or energy off the bench.  I think he'd be insane off the bench.  However I think the biggest issue with Diabate and Kaulk is the lack of offensive game.  The lack of a jump shot or anything.  Teams figured out to just leave them on the screen and crash lanes.  There has to be some sort of threat.  We need a 4 and a 5 that can do those things and stretch out the court. 3) Bridges.  He's just undersized.  However, I feel he really threw his all into it the last few weeks when others were gassed.  He was ok not being a focal point.  I'd like to have him off the bench as well but I assume he'd be traded to make things work.  4) Miller.  Dude can light it up when on, but disappears for quarters at a time.  Also he needs to work on ball handling and passing.  He's a turnover machine at bad times.  Also hopefully over the injury so he can bulk up too.   5) Kon. Just a rookie.  Long season and back injury.  I have no doubt he'll be back stronger and focused.  Needs to work on defense and physicality like the whole team but yes, a rookie he'll get there. 6) Coby.  Has to be resigned, no question.  The bench lineup is rough without him running the point.  Team has big potential and the front office seems sharp.  They seen the hive and how crazy it got and how much the city wants this.
