He's one of the top ST players on the team. He's isn't on the team for his defensive skills.

What does that even mean? Most kickoffs result in touchbacks, most punts result in fair catches.  Why is he being kept? For the occasional tackle on ST when a player gets the rare chance to take a kick back?

Yes. would you prefer we just don't talk to anybody?  Safeties are usually fast enough to get down there and generally sure tacklers. You want to keep guys like this around. you want to stop the play as soon as they try to make a return.

Okay, so we have DBs who couldn't cover anyone and no one was able to tackle tonight, so let's go ahead and blame the back-up safety.

I saw him blow coverage once and yet was in on trying to clean up a lot of mistakes made by DBs and LBs who weren't playing for crap.

If you think Jones is the problem, you're trying too hard to pin it on a guy that doesn't deserve it.

Our defense looked soft and couldn't tackle for crap. Our inability to stop the run, even against second or third stringers, was terrible. Perhaps having our defensive coordinators poached in consecutive years is the real problem here.

Jones was literally the spark behind our win against the Packers

not a starter by any means, but a solid ST and a good back up. Cutting him would be dumb.

The point is, he gets on the field way too often on defense and he shouldn't. It's just a lack of depth that we keep ignoring year in and year out.

Cut it out.. anybody can make them weak ass tackles.. we need safeties that will enforce poo..

We obviously need safety’s that are going to actually make tackles if this is what our secondary showing is going to consist of. No one is saying Jones is elite but we do know he’s damn fast and he can finish tackles. Who cares how flashy the tackles are.
