This makes the most sense out of any explanation. Instead of being like PhillyB and sucking a meteorologist anus hole. By saying they're the best at their job, even though they're wrong. Only in sports, and weather can you be wrong the majority of the time, and still get people like PhillyB to take up for you. Just LOL.

You don't even have to know anything about predictive modeling.

Do you know what a variable is?

To many variables to accurately predict how a hurricane will track and build.  It is literally a tornado with a bigger mass area.

So the top a Florence is at 36000 feet. You have different levels of winds either working with or against the hurricane. If one level of wind changes direction that will affect where Florence will go.  So no wondered it is hard to predict how strong it will be and where it will go.

But if you look at the predicted path they did a good job of predicting the area of impact til the last day or two.

Hurricanes are not funny or fun or easy to predict. And I sincerely hope every one of you are as prepared for Florence as you can be. Be safe. But humor often can reduce tension and help people cope. So let's get OFF the arguing about gd accuracy and focus on this.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Raleigh area at this point. Since the projected path is now south of us, we should only get about 5" of rain over 3-4 days, and the winds shouldn't be that bad. We may get some flash flooding but power outages should be much less of an issue now. The coastal areas of NC and SC could see record rainfall and flooding though.

Same for us in Charlotte. Maybe a little more rain but I don't expect the wind to be that bad. Thanks for the encouragement

Its getting pretty dark and windy here already in Fayetteville (about 100 miles Northeast of Wilmington)

Fayetteville resident here. The most important thing we need to remember is after the storm. We will most likely be without power for a week, so keep can goods and liquids for good use. It's going to get hot, so stay hydrated and keep cool.

fuging hell, a week? I'm 27 years old and Ive never been without power for more than a day or two in my memory. That's awful.

Weve got plenty of food and liquids with only 4 people total here , so we have more than enough for a week.

We're also living at a pretty elevated area where I've never seen any kind of flooding. I know certain parts of Fayetteville that are super low though , like I had a friend who used to live well below a street and his house was at the very bottom of it. Not sure how wise it was to ever buy a house that damn low for a variety of reason.

I also know of a few people who live in trailers. Hoping they evacuated or at least went to one of the several shelter areas in NC with plenty of food/supplies in tow .

I'm here with my mom's side of the family. The other side of my immediate family (parents divorced when i was 3) , lives in Sanford in a much bigger house than im in now (basically my childhood home). Very elevated area too and they're further out of the way than we are, so not too worried about them.

Storm looks like it has stalled out completely to me at this point - sitting here between Southport and Supply 3 miles from the beach  for the past 4 hours and nothing.    Had one 15 minute long band of torrential rain and 45 plus mph winds about 2 pm today  and some extremely heavy  rain but that's it.  this storm needs something to kick it in the ass and get it moving or its going to be a long many days.  At least we still got power but at the rate its moving once it goes out its going to b out a long friggin time.  Ive heard reliable reports from anywhere between 24 to 48 inches of rain here in my area expected -  the rate its moving I can believe it.  Floyd was huge and dumped 24 on us but at least it kept moving.  This fugger is all but stationary.

Still no rain here in Fayetteville yet. I suppose we'll be getting it mostly Friday and Saturday.

Hoping this thing is totally gone by Monday so I can get on with my week. Do not want to be trapped in the house without power for a week .

Its bad enough this storm single handedly fuged my weekend over.
