Ryan Kalil

Not to be mean, but Kalil's intelligence is his biggest asset, just as a lack of it is Amini's biggest detriment.

Physically, he is not a 300-lb man--he carries more weight than his frame should carry.  That leads to injury and premature retirement--think of the OL who play a long time--they are big-boned, large men.  Men like Whitworth, for example.  The desire for more agile, athletic OL has created the need for players to add pounds--they do not last as long (Gross, for example).  There are some centers who play until they are 36 or so.  Kalil is 33 and probably should have retired 2 years ago.  He weighed 285 at USC.

I say in the spirit of Hurney and Panthers we extend him another year (again) to get healthy and while Larson plays just as well if not better this year (again), we should recognize he is a fan favorite and pay him for what he has done for this franchise (again). People need to stop hating so much damn he is the glue that holds this oline together not only from the field but from the bench as well.

Based on Ryan's injuries these last few years, his mind is still willing, but his body is no longer up to the task.

Panthers need to learn to move on from these elderly players before the become a liability.

He can't stay healthy, and his small injuries take forever to heal... Sounds like him and his brother are con artists haha

Definitely fear a shoulder injury will keep Ryan out awhile. But I don't think we'd be 3-1 with Larsen starting. Ryan was hugely important in helping our makeshift Oline settle in. And we needed Larsen at G those 2 games to fill in for Trai.

If Larsen now has to start at C, at least the line has geled a bit, but wow, that would make 4 Oline combos in 5 games.

Oh... so you mean like... what our last GM did?

Or a 10 million dollar cap hit.

Shoulder injuries are kind of a problem when your main job is blocking. Not such a great thing when you're snapping to a quarterback who's lined up in shotgun either.

Hate to say it, but I'm so ready for this guy to retire.  Great player for many years, but it's exhausting hearing about him getting injured every single season.  He can't be relied upon.

Be careful what you wish for. Without Ryan, the Panthers o-line has been terrible. Unfortunately, most Huddlers see the center position as one that is easily replaceable. Ask the Seahawks what getting rid of a good center does for your o-line troubles.

Right.  He calls the schemes.
