An entire Hawaiian island has vanished under the waves in the wake of Hurricane Walaka.

East Island, which is part of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument and serves as a critical habitat for endangered Hawaiian monk seals and sea turtles, was basically washed away earlier this month, federal officials said Monday.

Scientists say the storm's massive surge, as well as rising sea levels resulting from climate change, factored into the island's disappearance.

Fletcher, who was doing research in July on East Island, told the news outlet he figured the tiny island would be underwater eventually but thought it would take a few decades for rising seas to eliminate it.

It's unknown if East Island, which hosted a U.S. Coast Guard station until 1952, will ever return or what will happen to the displaced animals.

it's another issue "in the wall of the network of ecosystem diversity on this planet that is being dismantled.”

Unfortunately, Climate Deniers will only be convinced when they suffer personal losses because of the intense weather because of climate change.

and even more unfortunately - most don't live near the coasts.. they live in-land and up in the mountains with their inbred family.. god dammit man, we live in 2 entirely different realities..

you can't reason with an ignorant redneck who refuses facts - AND is proud of it!?!

..whew.. almost got triggered there for a minute.. lol

26 500-year storms in the last 10 years.

Don't worry, it's just a phase!  All will be settled!  It's a cycle!  God will fix it!

Now, let me start digging off shore for more oil before the waves get too rough!  But if it spills, it will be ok!  Just look at the gulf coast!

    • Don't think your comparisons are germaine. Teddy and Bryce are nothing alike. And no I am not always right  or  wrong but the difference is I let the experts inform me and follow those who do know. And after all the constant wrong takes you go on and on about just like this one, I don't feel like we are kindred souls or like minded. I will be glad to compare my takes versus yours anytime.  And have no clue what you are talking about regarding stern lectures. But I can see around here if you take a constant negative approach to everything you get a lot of support and given our track record you may be right about some things. I don't live my life that way nor do I constant like to complain like you.
    • Never, and it doesn't have to be an old grizzled vet, sometimes a vet can learn something from a young player too.   Do you not see players talking to each other between plays, quarters, on the bench, wherever, in EVERY sport? It's what players do, especially the great ones, they're always working on their craft and learning tips from others to better themselves.   So when your entire receiving room outside of one player, who has mostly played special teams in his career, has played 1 season or less in the NFL, it's not a lot of experience there in the locker room and on the sideline and is a tad concerning in regards to the proper growth of all these young WRs with great potential.
