Browns ownership have long under estimated the level of dumpster fire they have, Jackson was the coach they needed.

but as the case with many others, they fired him too soon.

Your second post was more informative than your first :)

Thehe thing about the Browns is they're one of these teams that it just seems like whatever they do, it's wrong.

They go for the touchdown when they should have gone for the field goal. They opt for a field goal when they should have gone for the touchdown. Etc. Etc.

It's not that they necessarily make the same mistake over and over again. It's just that whichever choice they choose, it tends to wind up being a mistake.

I mean, what did they think was going to happen? Tyrod Taylor was going to come out, take them 5-2 and let their Rookie come on slowly?

I mean if they squeak out 6 wins like the Panthers did Cams first season and finish strong that’s a win.

Hue should not have made it to this season at all,... 1-31 as a head coach is something there is no kind of excuse for, not even in Cleveland,.

but if you are going to take him into the season,.. and roll with Tyrod until Baker, and get all the new editions gellin,..you don’t fire him midseason,..

Actually now that I say it like that, makes too much sense,..

so im going to speculate now that Hue did or said something to the ownership,.. maybe Todd Haley too

they crossed line behind closed doors with something.

otherwise it’s just too dumb

From what I've been reading, it just seems like Jimmy Haslam really liked Hue Jackson's persona, which is surprising because he's basically a hue jasshole (maybe it's an "alpha male" thing).

It happens. Woody Johnson kept Rex Ryan around for way longer than he should have because people said he loved his "bravado". And heaven knows here in Carolina, we're certainly familiar with having an owner stick by a guy for personal reasons even in the face of poor performance.

Rex did take the Jets to back to back AFC ChampionShips with the buttfumbler of all people so that warrants some patience,..

Jerry wasted no time getting rid of SeiFart when he “took the air out of the building” and Fox did take us to 3 separate playoff runs and a Super Bowl,. so again some patience was earned,.

Hue,... not so much.

Jerry's issues we're more in the GM department than head coaching.

Gantt reported a long time ago that Hurney was basically"GM for life" no matter what our record. Word was he only got fired because he fell on the sword to save Rivera (Richardson was ready to fire him early in a losing season).

Both Bill Voth and Joe Person have stated that's how his first departure came about.

As critical as I am of Rivera's personnel decisions (for both players and coaches) the one choice I couldn't really blame him that much for was not hiring Hue Jackson as OC.

Granted, going with Shula wasn't such a good idea either, but I don't believe there's any way that Rivera and Jackson could have worked together. That would have been a disaster.

I was onboard with Jackson back then, but yes in hindsight that would have been bad.

From what I've been seeing on Twitter, it sounded like Haley and Jackson were constantly fighting over the offense. You can see this as early as Hard Knocks talking about Duke Johnson. Haslam seems to have had enough and basically told both of them to get out.

Wow didn’t know that at all—

Good for the Browns. My in-laws are from Akron and are big Browns fans. Hue Jackson has been trash as the head coach there. Even though we are talking about the Browns, he created the atmosphere for the failure of that team over the past two-plus seasons. Mistake-prone, no accountability, lack of toughness, and an extremely low level of competitiveness. I hope they get a good one to finally right that ship.

I have family in Columbus and Ashland--same story.

Jimmy Haslam in his press conference: "The message today is that we're not going to put up with internal discord."

I find this statement to be indicative of the over reach of the ownership of the Browns into the day to day operations of the football team. Despite Haley's red flags and history of being difficult to work with, Jackson needing unbridled respect from his subordinates, and the fact that "A team of rivals" rarely works in the NFL, the Browns hired Haley anyway. This situation is the doing of the GM and upper management who chose a track record of success with one of the most talented offenses in the league (Ben, Bell, Brown, Bryant) despite the situation in Cleveland being far different, including with their head coach.

Haslam needs to take ownership of the mistake that he made in hiring Haley; a mistake which was apparent in the first few episodes of Hard Knocks. Jackson has a history of working with QB's and grooming them into successful players at this level. Despite their record the past three seasons, the Browns started from the point an expansion team wouldn't be envious of. He had nothing to work with. He should've been allowed to finish out the season with play calling duties, Haley fired, and full control over personnel decisions. Haley should've never been brought in and Jackson never should've had to cede his choice of an offensive coordinator to upper management in the first place.

As an example, imagine Ron Rivera having no control over his coaching staff and Tepper bringing in Todd Haley instead of Norv Turner in the offseason, despite Ron asking for Turner. How do you believe their personalities would mesh? No replace Ron with Jackson and you have the scenario. In true Browns fashion, they finally assemble some talent for a coach who took the job despite the dreadful history of the Cleveland Browns, and then fire their coach in the middle of the season. They are a youthful group who would need time to mesh, maybe one more season.

Instead, the Browns fire their coach who has a roster that is actually capable of winning games but needs to mesh and add a few more pieces to be more consistent. Shame on Haslam for continually failing the people of his community who pay a lot of money to see the product he creates.
