Ron Rivera blew all three timeouts on a single point-less drive in a fourth quarter one-score game against a divisional rival

Now, he has also gotten Samuel and Moore involved---finally---which is also an improvement. Now, of course, I don't know whether or not that was mainly due to injury to Smith, or whether Rivera finally unlocked the chains because they were deemed ready (like was the case with the White Buffalo), but he still ultimately gets the thumbs up if only by default. So, he has improved.

Don’t forget that Moton was gonna be a super-sub OT/OG behind Silatolu and Kalil until they were injured. And, as someone else in another thread pointed out, Rivera is already talking up the added dynamism of Smith’s return to the lineup.

Here're your options, you have a younger player max'ed out on skills but hasn't absorbed the full playbook and you have a long toothed player with declining skills who has "been there done that" in all other ways. Do you start the young guy knowing that your playbook is very limited or do you start the old guy and have a wide open play selection although with some limitations in execution and select times to use the young guy? In both cases you  continue to develop the young with the eye to the future.

All we know is option 2 has us at 6-2 this year.

Carolina got Torrey Smith in a trade on 3/9/18.

Carolina drafted DJ Moore on 4/26/18.

Torrey Smith had never played for Norv Turner before, so the offense and playbook were new to them both.

Even considering the potential steeper “rookie learning curve”, the drastic difference between Moore’s mega-talent and results over Smith’s deteriorating talents and dropped passes are worth the more frequent rookie screw-ups BIGLY.

I think some of you need to learn you place as  C LEVEL, D LEVEL  and in my case  F LEVEL posters..  if you've not had 5,000,  10,000 , 25,000 or more post ..  you really have no place posting on a Time Out Wasted Thread..

NOOOOO,  It doesn't matter that you've seen every Panther game since 1995 ,,  You've not posted enough to know squat... You're not a real coach and you probably can't cook a steak  :shades:

Now just sit back and what us win the Super Bowl ..  without any time outs as the game ends

Yup he's an average HC not a bad HC.

Without Cam and Luke he's out the door. If he coached the Jets, Ravens, Washington, Bucs, Bears, Dolphins, Detroit, Tennessee, and so on he is a DC again and he'd stay that way.

Likewise you could take some of the coaches of those teams and have a similar record on this team as Ron does....maybe better. He needs to stay the F out of the way and not lose this team games.

This is not a new criticism, follows a longstanding trend, and is corroborated by countless other anecdotes, and therefore is neither reactionary nor insignificant an observation. Don't comment if you have nothing to say.

This isn't the Huddle from 2003 or the early days...you're not exactly talking to the cream of the crop.

I feel like Ron should hire a "Situational Coordinator" that does nothing but game theory and advises Ron what to do during crucial decisions during the game, like whether or not to challenge, whether or not to go for it, whether or not to onside kick or go for 2, when to run hurry up offense and when to run out the clock, etc.

Lots of money in the NFL and every game is very important so it doesn't make sense to not have the best advisors on your side. Should be a committee approach.

Smith was brought in for straight line speed. Moore and Samuel are counted on for more agile quick moves and YAC. The roles are totally different.

Ron has strengths as a coach. He also has weaknesses. I think we can all say that if you aren't trying to get better you aren't trying and sometimes that appears to be the case when the same mistakes are made over and over again. I don't think people really want him fired as much as they want him to try and correct his deficiencies. With his ability to bring guys together as a unit, if he could get his game management under control, this team could be something really special. It's all up to him.

What was the purpose? Is he playing more snaps than any WR now? Did we lose a game because of it? Because i can easily argue Moore cost is one. Did Smith play a big part in our turning point? Did Smith have to learn 3 positions? You want stats or a healthy player in December?

I was harder on Smith than anyone. But it’s all coming together perfectly. Moore’s breaking out. Samuel is right behind. Healthy and fresh. Why do you think TD looks so much faster this year. That suspension will wind up benefiting him and us. But the real problem is somehow a raw rookie and a second year “rookie” with serious health issues, haven’t played the proper number of snaps on a 6-2 team that is on a roll.

The fire Rivera crowd is officially desperate.

I hate to bag on Cam because he’s the heart and Ron’s an easier target. On the delay of game, Cam laid on the field for 5 seconds, then got the huddle, stayed on a knee for a few more and then finally saw no time on clock getting to the line. This was after he slid and didn’t get hit.

I think sometimes it’s a little on Cam. Not that we haven’t seen him complaining to the sideline with Shula about a play call being late but he isn’t a hurry to the line type of guy.

Personally I think its mostly on Cam rather than a little. He is the field general and he needs to get the players set faster. Only time I would blame the coach if they were really slow on the play call.
