Put it into perspective: What would have to happen for you to stop being a Panthers fan?

Like some others in here, for me is if the team moved... even if they stayed in Charlotte, but a new stadium and they priced me out were I couldn't afford good seats anymore; because I am spoiled and have great seats now so don't think I could enjoy myself in a new place if I did not have the same, similar or better.  I wouldn't be able to enjoy myself knowing what I used to have.

Moving. Not going to be a fan of the Hartford Panthers or whatever. I really feel for the few St. Louis fans who stood by their team as they capitulated to LA. Feel bad for Oakland fans but not as much; it's not like no one knew what was coming down the road for the last couple of decades there.

For me I think it’s more about lowering my interest, than it is to stop being a fan.

I would probably downgrade from being a fan, to someone who follows the team.

If they left the Carolinas, then there would no longer be any emotional attachment for me anymore and I’d likely pick up a different team or just stop caring about the NFL all together.  But I don’t think they would ever leave the Carolinas.

continuous losing and no sign of improvement is causing apathy for me. the hornets have officially lost me. i am now a casual observer with no interest in watching them on tv or in person. the panthers no longer have my full attention. i gave up my season tickets this year for a number of reasons, but i still watched 14 of the 16 games. seeing the nfc south improving while we trot out a piecemeal offensive line, hobbled qb, slow defensive line, and porous secondary while maintaining a coach who struggles with time management and continues to employ a coordinator who is over his head is slowly breaking my spirit. it sucks to think the team i grew up with has turned into a heartless waste of sunday. it hurts beyond measure.

to be fair, the nfl lost me before the panthers did. i have watched 0 non-panther games this season and plan to only watch the super bowl for social reasons. when the officials miss so many calls and the large market teams catch so many breaks, my interest began waning. the league is oversaturated (three days a week and 24-7 on social media). coupled with my responsibilities as a dad, i fear my time commitment will continue to slide away from my beloved home team. i no longer listen to local sports talk and rarely post here any more. the sad thing is, i'm not sure winning will cure this apathy. football is just no longer that important to me anymore.

sad, but true.

I watch less football than I did even 3 years ago...just different things to do rather than sit in front of my tv from 1-11 on Sunday, 8-11 on Monday, and 8-11 on Thursday.

I'm a huge Panthers fan, but I am losing interest in the NFL as a whole.  Down to 1 FF team, don't really gamble any longer, etc...

So, to answer the question, I would likely just slowly back away from the game, but will always consider myself a Panthers fan.

I drive 5+ hours to watch the Panthers play, so moving wouldn’t change my allegiance. I just would hope they wouldn’t move FURTHER away, as that would make getting to games even tougher. But I sat in old RFK Stadium on Xmas Eve at the end of Season One for the Panthers, rooting for Kerry Collins and Blake Brockermeyer and Tyrone Poole and Dom Capers to win to get to 8-8 in the inaugural season. I’m a fan of the Panthers and that’s what I’ll always be. Do I want them to win a SB? Hell yes, especially with Cam at the helm as I feel it would finally cement his spot in the HoF, but I’ll wait if that’s what it takes. So, no, I’m not going anywhere.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
