Newton suffering from lingering pain and soreness

That shot he took in the Pittsburgh game was calculated and deliberate.  That SOB put his helmet right on that shoulder and drove him to the ground.   I would bet donuts to chickens that is when his major issues started.

It may not be Greg Williams dirty but I have no doubt in my mind they were told if they get a chance to hit him, hit that shoulder.

I'm not at all happy about this. We've said before that Rivera seems to prioritize saving his job above the health of his players. This story just lends more credence to that notion.

That seems to be the culture---Marty Hurney did the same thing and it cost him a job anyway....RR did not have to "save his job" in 2016, one would assume (following 15-1 and Super Bowl) but he stayed with Cam anyway.  Paying the price now?

What concerns me?  He has relied on Cam's elusiveness and running ability to avoid pressure, going with some weak OL at times.  Cam took a beating for years and RR did not protest too much, methinks.  Now Cam is knocking on year 30 and his body is around 34.  RR is still whipping his show pony like a rented mule.

The "New normal" comment pisses me off for the reason above.  This season is the new normal, losing to Detroit and Tampa is the new normal, and playing with a hurt QB is now "Normal".  YOU SUCK RIVERA.

I assume Cam will have some type of procedure done in the off-season. However, I believe most of the shoulder soreness came from the number of hits he took against Tampa Bay instead of the number of passes he threw. I think if he is better protected like has been except for the Steelers and Bucs game his shoulder pain will be less pronounced.

As a person who had 2 shoulder surgeries in college, I can offer an in-depth, expert medical analysis.  (kidding).  This is what I was told.  The shoulder is a ball and socket joint, while the knee is a hinge joint.  The shoulder is often aggravated by "range of motion" stress while the hinge joint is not so much. In addition, since people tend to walk and when they cannot, they are motivated to try, the knee is constantly in natural rehab. The shoulder can be protected by using the other arm etc. and carried without needing to use it, so rehab is forced (and painful).  If Cam did not rehab his shoulder properly, it never really heals--I had Cam's attitude--fix it, but was not prepared for the rehab--months of painful range of motion reps.  It ended my career, assuming my skill did not play a role as well.

All that to say this--With Olsen's foot, Cam's arm, etc., I am starting to wonder about our medical staff--we cannot identify the acts that have caused recurring injuries---as if they do not heal.

I wonder if Tepper will look into our Medical/PT staff as well. Will be interesting to see what moves the team makes throughout the organization not just the players or coaching staff.

The whole idea that not resting Cam in 2016 is the reason the problem is back is ridiculous. It may have impacted early 2017 but he had all last off season and said the shoulder was fine this year until week 8. The obvious answer is he reinjured it in week 8.

Secondly the idea that Rivera cares more about his job over the players is ludicrous as well. He is known as a players coach and has always taken a very conservative approach in playing a hurt player. He let's the player and medical staff make the decisions. Look at Kuechly,  Trai and Oher and numerous others sitting for multiple games with concussions. Gano is out this week with a sore knee in his planting foot not kicking leg. If Cam's injury was so serious playing would make it worse then he would be sitting. After all Heinieke is getting all the practice reps all week and is ready to go. If Cam gets more injured it won't be any different than the risk any player has by playing each week and getting hit repeatedly. The anti-Rivera mania by the same half dozen posters is really annoying and goes against the reality of the situation. No one risks your 100 million dollar quarterback investment needlessly.

You were  also pro-Shula, and this offense hasn’t looked back since his sorry ass was canned.

Sure your perspective is the best to consider?

Ron Rivera has already proven your statement above wrong, yes no one having a brain would play their millionaire QB needlessly, but Ron is only using half of his brain. He played Cam the last 4 games of the season when he knew he had a damaged shoulder.  Why take any risk with that even if he could still play we weren' going to playoffs even if we won all 4 remaining games so that is NEEDLESS. Again this yr when we were trampled up under the sun with no chance of a comeback and is where I believe the injury occurred he had Cam, Olsen who was on borrowed time, and CMC taking hard hits who is our only RB they seem to want to play in another NEEDLESS game. I believe he doesn't value offensive guys like he does his defensive guys that is why Luke was not playing he took him out and if anyone should have been made to continue to play in that game it should have been Luke with all those missed tackles.

I am pro Panthers. I am also pro-Norv. And if Rivera is gone I will also be pro whoever replaces him. I think that is the perfect perspective.
