NOTES

- Someone posted a scenario earlier today showing how the Panthers could make the playoffs even at 7-9.  That's great, but here's what sucks.  The Falcons apparently have that same opportunity, and besides the head to head with us, take a look at their schedule vs ours. And of course, if they beat us again it'd be a sweep and they'd hold the tiebreaker.

- The Saints and Rams are still duking it out for the #1 seed, though the remaining games on the Rams schedule are almost sickening to look at (more so if you're a Saints fan).  The Steelers, who screwed us some weeks back, might now screw us again by sucking at season's end and making the road easier for the Saints to stay in contention should anything unexpected happen.

- The most vulnerable of the current Wild Card eligible teams looks to be the Vikings, not only because they have the lowest seed but also because their remaining schedule includes two games against teams with winning records. To be fair though, so do we (sort of).

- Among the also-rans, we're in a logjam with two NFC East teams who will play each other on the last week of the season.  As mentioned previously, we hold a tiebreaker over the Eagles but not the Redskins.  The Redskins, however, are down to about their 15th choice at quarterback, so it doesn't look good for them. The Eagles may be starting a backup too, but that was true last year as well.

- Bottom Line: Any realistic scenario of the Panthers making the playoffs involves winning out, which means beating the Saints twice, once in their stadium.  And even then, we'll still need help. Lose again, and the amount of help we need gets greater.  Lose twice and it'd take a Christmas miracle for us to get in.

Odds are we're gonna end up being told there's no room at the inn, though we do have a nice stable with a comfy manger out back and some lovely parting gifts. But hey, ya never know...

yeah. considering the schedule we have ahead of us, it's pretty stinking unlikely that we will get in the playoffs and even then, I can't see us beating any of the teams we'd be facing. there's  no way we're beating the bears or the cowboys. the bears D will totally decimate the offense and we aren't the same panthers team that beat the cowboys earlier in the year and they DEFINTELY aren't the same cowboys team we beat. we have no confidence and have collapsed in on ourselves and they got a legit WR that has really opened things up for them and everything else seems to be clicking at just the right time (sickens me to no end to have that as a reality).

just getting into the playoffs isn't a win. it's an open door for even further embarrassment. this team we've seen the last 5 weeks has no business being in the playoffs and won't be more than one and done if we do get in.

I have no confidence in any phase of this team anymore and the season I was so excited about even a month ago I am anxious to end just to get moving onto the next phase of panthers history.

I haven't been this frustrated and disappointed as a fan since '07.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been this frustrated and disappointed as a fan

Just read that Seattle clinches a playoff spot this weekend if they win.

They're playing the 49ers.

That would leave only one playoff spot open (the 6th seed).

So first step is pulling for Miami vs The Vikes and then hope we win on Monday night?

Would that scenario give us control if we win out ?

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
