An Update on a Historic Season for Christian McCaffrey

Currently he is 

  • 2nd in yards from scrimmage (1925) 
  • 4th in rushing (1080) 
  • 9th in average yards per rush (5.0) 
  • 5th in receptions (106) 
  • 25th in receiving yards (845)
  • Leads the Panthers in receptions, receiving yards, rushing yards, total touchdowns, and total yards from scrimmage 

 

Most recently he

  • Broke Steve Smith's Panthers franchise record for most receptions in a single season
  • Broke Matt Forte's NFL record for most receptions by a running back in a single season 

Current Stats are

  • 215 rushes, 1080 rushing yards, 5.0 yards per carry , 7 rushing touchdowns
  • 106 receptions, 845 receiving yards, 6 receiving touchdowns
  • 1925 yards from scrimmage, 13 total touchdowns 


Career Stats are 

  • 332 rushes, 1515 rushing yards, 4.5 yards per carry, 9 rushing touchdowns
  • 186 receptions, 1496 receiving yards, 11 receiving touchdowns
  • 20 total touchdowns, 3011 yards from scrimmage in 2 seasons 

Lost in all of this is how his stats this year compare to last year and how much better he's been running the ball. Cant imagine what's in store for next season. 

Yea , I'll update the stats if he plays in the last game.

Most notable is the fact that hes a white RB that isn't mosly a power back (ex. Larry Czonka , John Riggins, Mike Alstott, Payton Hillis). There have been some good white RBs in the last 40  years or so but rarely are they a balanced RB like CMC is.

This narrative started before he even played a down for us and is continuing to no avail. This dude will be 23 heading into next season and has never missed an NFL game in his career.

It's indicative of the shortcomings in other areas of the offense like another poster said. @tondi

Most of McCaffrey's catches are check downs and a check down is something even the lowest level of QB's and RB's can execute. You guys are ridiculous. 6-10 guys, 6-10, all of those glorious McCaffrey stats apparently meant nothing in the grand scheme of things, whereas Gurley's stats appear to have meant everything in the grand scheme of things.

People hate the truth. They hate it.

 

Pretty sure you won't get this (because let's be honest, there a lot of things you just don't get) but the fact that he did this on a losing team actually makes it an even bigger accomplishment than it would have been otherwise..

Cameron Artis-Payne, any RB that could stay healthy while being continually used like McCaffrey was, would surely rack up stats due to the shear volume, do you not understand that?

Cmc played better than gurley Check the number of runs over 20 yards. Cmc has many more than gurley all behind a much worse off line than rams

He's not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.

But here's the fun part: McCaffrey is capable of taking a short check down or a quick hand off and turning it into big yardage. He does it on a pretty regular basis if you're paying attention.

The notion that this is somehow a negative is pretty stupid.

And truthfully, there's a certain player who made an entire career out of that. He's actually in the Hall of Fame, even though he spent years in an offense that was based even more around those ideas and concepts than ours is.

I could name him, but I'd rather see if our dull-witted friend can guess who I'm talking about.

(the odds are probably against him)

      This is huge may not be a trap game but this plays a major part in what they want to do. If we can get some pressure on Sam we know what he does with pressure coming hit and heavy. Also we may be able to take the top off their defense a backup safety trying to stop TMac or Cooker over the top or forcing him to play the backend should allow us to run the ball somewhat effectively. Either they allow some runs or we take some shots and if Bryce and whoever can connect deep we’ll be in business for another big time win against a top notch opponent. Might not be a trap game but health travel game plans all play a major role in each weeks game plan and this week might be leaving our way. We’re missing some replaceable pieces they’re missing key anchors to the offense and defense major difference time to solidly ourselves at one of the top teams in the nfc tomorrow fellas buckle up.

      Yes.  If I am not mistaken, we need to sign Coker to the ERFA tender and insist that XL spends his spring and summer at a WR camp and not Coon huntin on his four wheeler.  XL was raw when we picked him--which is why I wanted to go another direction--and we are seeing how raw.  He is basically learning a position.     The Panthers will make their move in 2026 to be an NFL powerhouse behind Bryce.  Bryce needs intelligent WRs who catch the ball.  That said, we need a solid #2 to challenge XL and make cutting him easy, if necessary.  A #2 WR (intented to be a #1 by now) with under 400 yards is embarrassing.   On offense, you have to ask, "Where can we get better?"  In my view, #2 WR, TE (although they are improving) and maybe C (again, if we re-sign Mays, he is trending up and at 26, entering his prime--I say stay with him and find competition later in the draft (not good for C).  OL depth maybe?  In other words, XL is a glaring weak spot.
