I think Rivera stays but Hurney goes

Definitely possible.

The one thing I would note: If that happens, this would be the third time a GM has been fired while working with Rivera as a head coach.

Granted, Gettleman was fired because Richardson was a moron. Hurney's initial firing, on the other hand, came because Marty agreed to fall on the sword to save Rivera when Richardson wanted to let him go.

Certain players get reputations for being "coach killers". At what point do you start referring to Rivera as a "GM killer"?

Is it common to force GMs to retain a HC they have no say in?

It happens. I don't know that I'd say it's common.

Of concern to me would be that Tepper would be repeating something Jerry Richardson did. That's generally not a good thing.

If you're going to hire a new GM, and I agree that you should, then let him decide what happens to Rivera. Don't force him to endorse a coach he might not believe in.

I tried to tell you all he was coming  back.  Most of the huddle was simply projecting their own feelings on the matter and refused to look at it objectively.

Hurney is out, and a new GM gets to evaluate Coach Rivera, as it should be.  Even if you hate Coach Rivera, you don't fire both at once, because then by the time you get a new GM, you have to then accept a new coach off the scrap heap.

For all we know Tepper forced this decision from on high.  I don't think Rivera has ever done it before when we were eliminated.  He kept the starters going.  If he keeps Rivera, I'll have a fit.  Can't imagine anyone not seeing the writing on the wall.  3 winning seasons out of 8?  Is that right?

I am a believer that we keep Ron and find a new GM. like has already been posted let the new GM make the coaching decision after next season. Not going to go well trying to get a good GM and coach the same off season. It would be a horrible decision and could possibly set us back another 4 years.

We're not keeping Ron and removing Hurney. If Ron isn't removed, Hurney won't be either. If the excuse is a injured Cam Newton, that means almost everyone is safe

This is bullshit if it plays out this way

    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
    • He had the award until like the last 8 games. He sucked ass and flagg had 3 40 point games
