It’s worked out well for the Cowboys and Colts recently...

Worked out well.  Because they got a once in 5 years OG, kinda similar to the kid the Colts drafted last year.  And one of the best LT prospects to come out the past decade.

In 4 seasons the Colts will have to either give their Guard a contract close to 90 million dollars when they could be getting virtually identical production from a 5th round pick at a fraction o the cost or watch him go to Jacksonville.

You don't draft guys in the first round for one contract. The Colts are stupid.

All I’m saying is it would be stupid to completely reject taking a guard in the first round. All depends on the specific players available.

2nd-3rd is a sweet spot for a interior OL

We got Trai Turner in the 3rd

Patriots both starting OG- 3rd and 4th,

Moton (botton of the 2nd),

Eagles starting LG-3rd

Dion Dawkins- Bills LT who was a OG prospect

Chargers starting LG- 3rd

Baltimore's starting OG's- 3rd and 4th rounders

Bears, Cody Whitehair- late 2nd (right at the spot our two 3rds would equal)

Vikings center- Elfein, 3rd rounder

Tampa's top OL LG Marpit- bottom of 2nd

Just to name a few

Agree

But when you can get a Stud DL while still getting a real good OG in the 3rd

Vs a Good OG in the first and Avg DL in the 3rd.

Listened to a interview with a scout awhile back.

They mentioned.  OL, besides your #1 OT in the draft.  The value slides obviously, but not that steep of a drop.  The difference kn the 1st round OG and 3rd round isnt that far off

DL on the other hand once it gets out of those top guys it drops off

The difference in a 1st round DL and a 3rd is equivalent to the difference in a 1st round interior OL and a 6th rounder.

While the difference in the 1st and 3rd round interior OL is just the difference in a 1st round guy and a 2nd round DL.

Check your premise.

My premise is fine, your understanding is wrong.

The Colts will either choose to give their OG a near on 90 million dollar contract or they will then acquire a player who earns them just as many wins and realize they wasted a 1st round pick on a player who is going elsewhere.

    • fuging Christ dude this isnt hard.  Like at all.  I get you simping for this poo team is your thing but sometimes you have to look at reality.   Even removing his bum knee from the equation, none of this made sense.  He is 31.  He has been paid handsomely for his service here.  He was currently under contract for this season.  Why in the holy fug did anything have to be done 2 weeks before the season started.   The people for this move, in this thread are saying A) He deserved it (this is the nfl it doesnt work like that  B) It frees up cap space (then why in the fug didnt we do this in Feb or C) You logic (We are getting a deal at 53 million guaranteed for the next 3 years.   You realize with this deal we cannot cut or trade his ass for 3 years.  You understand this right?   So in my opinion we should have let this ride into the offseason and go from there, what he is going to threaten to walk, big fuging deal he would be 32 on a chronically bad knee, what other moronic franchise is going to give him 40 million up front?  It wasnt going to happen.   And you are acting like its impossible to replace a 32 year old RT with a bum knee.  Just go and draft someone, move Icky to RT.  There are tons of options instead of extending this dude 2 weeks before the fuging season.  The truth is Morgan and the shitheads in the FO fell for this dudes crying act and got all sentimental and shelled out another ext.  We are a poverty ass franchise that doesnt act professionally
    • Amazing what the prospect of being traded to Carolina will do for contract negotiations.
    • 5 Im glad football is back but after the embarrassment that was the browns pre season game where our starting D made Sanders look like a serviceable NFL QB, I lost hope again for a successful Panthers campaign this year.  I do hope I’m wrong!
