XFL fires a shot across the NFL's bow

Honestly, they could suck all the real talent out of the college level. If a player could go make money for 3 years before his NFL eligibility why wouldn't they. Of course it's a long shot to even survive a year let alone change the landscape of the current reality. Not sure they could dent or compete with the NFL's rate of pay but it could beat the hell out of the college level, which is just fine by me. I know people can love that system but I find it exhausting and underwhelming. The difference in talent is comical and lame but it is huge for free training for the NFL, which I do support.

I could see it be tempting, especially for kids from families that are struggling financially to go a route that brings them money quicker.  Overall, I don't think its going to suck away any top talent.

last version of the XFL was such a comical let down....

I don't see this version working either.   I don't really care about watching Armanti Edwards and whatever group of can't make a NFL roster dudes playing bad football in a different "cool" league.

The last version of the XFL had Dick Butkus as their commissioner. This one has Oliver Luck.

Whatever other comparisons there are, this version is at least smarter at the top.

I think this version of the XFL is less concerned about great football and more about seeing a chance to cash in on a divisive country IMO.  But we will see.

i seriously doubt the nfl is worried.

the xfl won't attract high profile college players. it's the american equivalent of the cfl.

Gantt speculated that they could pursue Trevor Lawrence.

If they landed him, that would definitely have the potential to make things interesting.

Lousy football is what killed the prior version.

Whatever you might think of him, Vince McMahon is no fool. He's not going to want to make that same mistake again.

That's not to say he'll succeed mind you, but I do believe he's going to do his best. And it is true that conditions now are more favorable then they were before.

Thats not gonna happen

Maybe not, but remember that NFL rookie contracts are limited now.

If the XFL can throw more money at him than an NFL team can, who knows?

Getting a highly sought-after prospect like that could give them instant credibility. That's kind of how the USFL got its start.

    • It's not sustainable,  although he deserve credit for the win also, as he made clutch plays as he does with every win we have.
    • As much as I would love to sit here and bash on Young.  I can't.   He is absolutely a part of this team winning.  He is the cool hand leading the offense along with the hammer, Rico.  He's making plays on 3rd and 4th downs, that are absolutely helping thus team win.  Is Bryce playing as well as we'd like? Nope. Although he had only 1 week off from a high ankle sprain.   No question he was 100% in the Greenbay game.  I'm not even sure where the team would find a clear upgrade over Byrce.  He is a leader.  In the 4th quarter, he has ice in his veins.  He is a part of why our team is enjoyable to watch again.  Without him, we wouldn't be winning.    Anyways.  Y'all enjoy yet another thread designed to tear down the man.
    • Great article on all the Lil Canes attending their debutantes ball. Walt with a great breakdown of all the rookies, as always, and I'm a huge fan of his team coverage, he is truly a treasure, but as a fan of mixed metaphors and superfluous language which some might ignorantly refer to as a "run-on sentence" I never really understood what that mean or where to put the comma after a quote in the middle of a sentence, but holy poo Walt, this is a gem, "While there's a long road left in front of them left to determine whether or not they'll have that same success on the blue line again, the beginning stretch of the journey has been thrown a wrench, and the story on defense has been the emergence of up-and-comers forced into becoming lineup regulars." , bravo, take a bow, sir!
