Are We Trading for Marc Gasol?

If we can get him for Biz, Frank and a second then that is a good deal for us.  I would not give up a first or Monk or Miles for him, he is too old.

I'd be cool with a protected first if it means keeping Monk, Bridges, and MKG. Unprotected absolutely not though.

FEBRUARY 6, 9:54am: The trade the Grizzlies and Hornets have discussed would see Gasol head to Charlotte in exchange for Bismack BiyomboMichael Kidd-Gilchrist, and a protected first-round pick, league sources tell Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer. However, the two sides haven’t been able to agree on the protections for the draft pick, according to O’Connor, who confirms that the impasse might be enough to derail the deal entirely.

Didnt see black panthers post...my bad

So...Gasol salary is about 25 m and MKG + Biz is 30 m.  Give them the unprotected first IMO.  If we make the playoffs that pick is just ok.

Look I love MKG and will miss his defense but getting rid of that Biz deal and cutting cap and getting a center as effective as Gasol would definitely work for me.

Of course we would probably miss the playoffs by 1 game and then hit the lottery with that pick.  SMH but gotta do something IMO.

I would pull the trigger on it as long as the pick has some protection.  I would hate to give up a high lottery pick on that type deal but otherwise it looks good.  Two bad contracts gone and an all star level center added to our mix.  Even if Gasol has lost a step he is a lot easier to trade than Biz or MKG.

Thinking about this I think it would only need top 3 protected.  I think we could only move into the top 3 or stay in our draft position if I am right on how that works.

I'd honestly rather give up a mid-round first, MKG, and Kaminsky. Lamb is currently the only reliable scorer not named Kemba so that would hurt...

Thats what the emergence of Monk is for

Lambs a FA we won't be able to resign anyways so who will be the "other reliable scorer" next year?

I trust Kup more  than Cho drafting at 18

And can use that pick to replace Lamb next year

Ah, forgot Lamb's a FA. Monk needs to show some consistency IMO. I'm pretty numb to mid round firsts at this point with Charlotte so Kup will have to make me a believer.

And lets not get over ourselves adding Gasol isnt going to make us instant contenders.

Itll be just enough to just get us over the hump and a last seed playoff.

That pick will be a 16-18, NOT a 25-30.  You can still get studs im that range if you draft right

John Collins in ATL-19th

Kyle Kuzma- 27th

Terry Rozier- 16th

Greek Freak- 15th

So we'd be betting BIG on Monk.

As we wont be able to resign Lamb, be able to sign a servicable SG, nor be able to draft anyone.

So we'd have Monk and Bacon next year.  And your worried about trading Lamb nowbecause he's the only other servicable scorer.  Just Wait untio next year

Now what I was mentioning would be a Win for both teams

We get Gasol, keep our main young pieces and 1st round pick

They get a Young Zeller, 2 expiring contracts, and 2 2nd round picks

Biz plus MKG straight up for Gasol works in the trade machine.  Granted they only do that if we throw in a draft pick or other asset.

I see this as a big win for Charlotte the more I think about it.  We dump two bad contracts and get an all star caliber player back for what is likely to be a mid first round draft pick?

Apparently we had monk on the table - but when the Grizz pulled Gasol from their lineup last night - it gave us the upper hand and we are jockying for a better deal
