Some notes from my source involving the NFL draft

I can’t find where we brought in any first round corners,.. safeties either for that matter.

we spent 2-3 visits, 4 even with 2 players first round for OT DT and DE. There of course can be a smokescreen where we met with someone in some quiet way— we never met with stewart for example, but we had his doctor.

anyway, there’s a new mock on NFL with Byron Murphy being our pick— the OT and DL players are gone except Ferrell lasts until Phili.  I feel Hurney would take Ferrell or drop back Who knows though.

edit— I did go through again the visits,... we met 4 times with Greg Little and we also met twice with Marquise Brown. twice with McGary.

so I think of those 1st tier guys are gone, Wilkins, Ford, Ferrell, Dillard(day what you want, we looked at the guy hard, he will be a pick if he’s there), Taylor, Sweat, Burns— those are our Private visits without close schools. Williams wasn’t but that doesn’t meant anything.

Hurney I think will drop back and the next tier he’s got in a box are Brown, Little, McGary, Byron Murphy and Rapp(found the visits but they are the only DB 1st round), Dremont Jones, Dexter Lawrence. I think those the next tier choices if Hurney drops back unless someone from the first group falls somehow.

Savage and Murphy were brought in.

And Savage is a 16 pick?

I edited adding Murphy and Rapp. I don’t know if Savage is a first round DB. Who knows, maybe 1000 mocks are all wrong

I can’t go for 16, but the kid is absolutely for real.

The group of 4 FS’s that are lumped together are hard to separate. That’s good and bad. I’ve went from Adderly to Thornhill and now I think Savage could the top guy. CGJ is right there too. Where I thought we could easily get one at 47, that might be tough.

What impresses me about Savage is he could also be an elite Slot CB. Like a lot of FS now, he can play single high in base 7 man fronts, and cover the slot in Nickel. You could actually say that about the others as well, but Savage and his speed are all I can find between them for separation.

I don’t include Abram or Rapp because I don’t like the fit with Reid. And if we wait, you’re betting on Hooker(who’s good) and Thompson(who knows)

These two guys are my dark horse picks for us, Murphy is the best zone CB in the draft and Savage is absolutely underrated on boards. You always have a saftey or two fly up draft boards on draft day, Savage and Adderley are those guys with an outside shot of Thornhill near the end of the 1st.

Greedy Williams will be our pick. I have a source and this is what he said. Panthers keeping it quiet because they don't want someone to trade up for the best DB in the draft.

I'm sure you don't know poo, but I'd be fine with a CB if none of our top OL/DL are there. Would much prefer a CB to a mediocre prospect like Ferrell. I'd much prefer Byron Murphy though

Yeh, if we take a guy like Savage or Murphy it would be the biggest benefit to get a Patriots type of guy that can play FS and CB.

While other exhausting threads are all for us taking OL or DL 16, it wouldn’t be the end of the world to get a badass ball hawk FS/CB there.  If Savage can play both better or equal to Adderly at both positions then I wouldn’t jump off a bridge for the 16 pick like many would— 47 would be much more comfortable but as you said, the dual position guys will be gone

im still in the drop back for another 2nd rounder thoughts. Even for my biggest wants like Taylor(I know you hate em, just saying) dropping to 16, that might would give us the best chance to drop back for a good 2nd.

then maybe we can get 2 picks in the 20s trading back up.

Yeh I said that too soon, went back and looked longer— that’s why I did say I edited the post, and I acknowledged you were right there.

I think they may be targeting Ed Oliver

This. I've said for a while that he won't slide past them, and if he looks to be sliding towards them, we should trade up in front of them to get him. I don't want to see Ed Oliver twice a year.

    • No you dont.  He had all those records for years before his final season. Whether career or season he had them all years before his final season in which he played 6 games.
    • Williams covered for Moore by saying they were on the wrong page about Moores specific route. Williams could have easily covered for him by saying he messed up. Suggesting only 1 route was ever intended to be a viable target is absurd.
    • I am going to agree with Linville this time--I think we need to get a veteran edge (We have Jones II, Scourton, and Princely--2 developmental guys and a decent veteran).  We don't really think of Jones because he had a hamstring injury weeks 3 and 4 and a back that required surgery Week 6-17.  He still managed 10 pressures, and he will be 28.  Princely Umanmielen only played in approximately 18-20% of the snaps and he struggled at times.  Basically, he was a situational pass rusher.  He got 1.5 sacks and 10 pressures.  He should improve, but for now, he is what he is.  Scourton gives us hope.  For a rookie (and thanks to Jones II's injuries, he was given more PT), he had 8 sacks--and held the edge.  He played at a first-round draft pick level.  He has the potential to become "that guy" in 2026. We lose Wonnum, who played nearly 700 snaps and amassed 3 whole sacks.  For a person raised a Gamecock, I would not be upset if we purged our roster of all South Carolina alumni.   However, I see it this way:  Wonnum was decent holding the edge, something Patrick Jones II and Scourton have demonstrated at a high level.  He is a liability, if you ask me.    Jones had 7 sacks one season in Minnesota and is known for his inside rushing ability--not what you would call a speed rusher.  I think Princely was a bit disappointing, but he was a bit raw.  Out of college, they described him as being a bit predictable.  I see no reason he will not improve in 2026 and become a situational pass rusher.   Basically, with Scourton and Princely expected to continue to develop and Jones II returning from injury, I think we need another veteran (if we can get a good one) to give us balance and depth.  A third developmental player is not ideal.   Draft:  OT, LB, WR, OL depth, S. Free Agency:  Edge, possibly a WR;  re-sign Mays, Cuhran, BC (??), and Nijman.  Let walk:  Wonnum, Scott, Dowdle.  I see about $20m per year after signing the OL depth.  Spend it on a veteran edge.   Players like Reddick (Tampa), Bosa (Buffalo), Khalil Mack (LAC) could be available on a one or two year deal in the $15m range.  We could splurge here, but I think a veteran situational pass rusher (depending on Jones II's back) is all we need while our 2 young guns develop.
