wtf, man?

I quit following the situation as closely when it was made known that we're not cutting Torrey Smith and we re-signed Colin Jones.

But, according to OverTheCap we only have just over $15 M in cap space right now.

We'll need $9-10 M or so in space to sign rookies. So, as it currently stands, we only have about $5 M for free agency.

Are we literally not going to sign ANYONE outside of our own guys?

Are we rolling the dice with the Daryl Williams situation and hoping he comes back for cheaper than he was originally asking before we cut ties with Kalil? Are we seriously going to keep Matt Kalil?

I know more moves can be made to make some space. But, all indicators are that we'll once again do basically nothing to improve the team from last year other than draft people.

What in the actual fug? Where is our owner, that was espousing all this "being competitive" stuff? If you don't work to get better before the draft, you're hedging your bets on what you can get out of the draft.

I've never gotten into the whole MH vs. DG debates that occur here, but right now Hurney is looking pretty bad from a GM standpoint.

I'm assuming a lot of it is still Rivera, which is a problem that should have been corrected before now, too.

Am I overreacting? I swear, over the years, this team has taken years off my life, lol.

it’s like watching paint dry from here

But but our owner, man.

We need to clean house.

It has to be a great environment if you're an average veteran looking to ride out the waning years of your career in mediocrity. But, if I was a young guy or a stud like Cam or CMC, that wanted to win, I would look elsewhere the first chance I had.

I guess Kalil is healthy and Smith is feeling young again....LOL. I'm ready for the house cleaning and if it takes one more sad year, it's a price I'm ready to pay. I dont mind not signing giant contracts on overpriced FAs but the plan so far is infuriating and I'm ready Booo them out of town.

Initially, I believed Tepper about building a winner...  now, i think his initial/sole focus is revamping the business and logistics side before he addresses anything else...  as if we're not operating in a business that is determined by wins and losses.  I don't like it.

The sad part about not having no cap room is we have a ton of holes to fill on defense. We losing our own FA's and not signing anybody to replace them yet.

For the people who say we don't spend that is false. We spend we just pick the wrong guys Kalil/Poe to spend on. Then we give loyalty contracts to Olsen/TD even though they are pass their prime. Those contracts add up and it puts you in the situation we are in now.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
