And his failure to recognize and do something about the calls on defense is exactly when i lost faith in RR as a HC. It’s one thing to not fix the offense. That’s never been his thing. Horrible decisions nonetheless. But if I(and many) can see it from my couch, you better believe coaches did.

No CB is going to be effective playing outside leverage, 10 yards off the ball, with no safety help in the middle. This was routine. The long pass/PI to Alshon that almost beat us at Philly. Explain that coverage. He should have took over then.

You know I defended him(well his record mainly) up until the DEF fell apart. That’s his baby. And not encouraged by going “hybrid” in a ultimatum year.

Dick LeBeau was one of the greatest defensive minds the NFL has ever seen, but he was a lousy head coach. He just didn't have the skills for that job.

I don't believe Rivera does either.

Mind you, if the Panthers do part ways with him at some point, I agree with the notion that he'll get another head coaching job quickly. That said, the idea that this is an argument against letting go of him is pure folly.

I think Rivera's greatest success would come if he followed the path of his mentor Jim Johnson and just played out his career as a defensive coordinator. Doubt Ron sees it that way though.

Yep. Coach LeBeau is a great DC and person but he was a poor HC. RR is much better than that. He sort of had me speechless when I met him. So much respect.

But RRs closing in on that 10 year mark. I’m a firm believer in that theory. The message gets old to the players. He shouldn’t  be talking about learning and making basic adjustments that should be happening in year one or two. At some point he is what he is. Solid but limited.

He’s one of the best DCs in the game. Was terrible as HC in Detroit. Thanks for sharing this, interesting.

Eagles personnel exec Joe Douglas is one of the people speculated to be a candidate for the Panthers GM job if Hurney were to be let go.

Douglas and Schwartz have a little history together. Some analysts believe that if Douglas does get a GM job,he'll look to hire Schwartz as his head coach.

If that job were with the Panthers, the question would be how Tepper feels about retreads. The Steeler method doesn't tend to favor them.

People sometimes have great difficulty separating the personal from the professional. In reality, it's kind of a good skill set to have.

There are people I think very highly of on a personal level who I wouldn't trust to run a lemonade stand. Likewise, there are people who I'd be happy to never see again whom I grudgingly have to admit are very good at what they do.

It's sad, but true.

Schwartz prefers to live up north.  He said Minneapolis is one of his most favorite cities.

Thank goodness for unsourced speculation. That scenario sounds awful.. I would  gladly stay with two time NFL coch of the year over ( .358) Jim Schwartz. Their defense was just as bad as ours.

It's always amusing to see people who lack the reading comprehension to perceive the basic difference between "this could happen" and "this should happen".

Agree... and I truly believe Ron is a great defensive mind.  Just has had struggles with clock management- I hope this new coach we hired for that purpose helps.

Along with Ron focusing on defense and letting Norv run the offense without interference

He didn’t hire anyone, Ron told Sam Mills it’s his responsibility, said he had already been doing it.
