Will Grier interview on ESPN and ABC

Both Stidham and Jones are better.  Jones looks raw but his quick release, footwork and accuracy are perfect.  He also reads defenses very well.  Would not be mad if he’s a pick at 16.

Devil's advocate:

We have evolved into shorter passing attack, with Moore and Samuel and CMC--all  capable of breaking a  big play at any time.  Do we need the 6-5, 250 lb QB with a cannon arm (normally) who is plagued with accuracy and timing concerns?  Would a smart, game manager not be the best fit? (Not necessarily Grier, but  a few of the other midling QBs--watched some video on him---I think I see your points--Will watch more.

I wish you had not said Alex Smith lite---that ruined it for me.

Agreed on all. Clausen was more advanced and similar physically. If we need a backup this year, all Grier(and all the other 2-4th round QBs) would do is help get us closer to the eventual pick at QB in the 2020 draft. Trade a 5th for Josh Dobbs. He’s an actual genius.

Don’t like Grier and what really bothers me is that Marty picked Jimmy Clausen proving that he doesn’t know shet about picking QB.  Grier just doesn’t have the arm.

Going to disagree. If we have to wait for the third to pick Dline we are absolutely fuged as far as pass rush this year. It’ll take time for anyone the to make a big enough impact right away which we desperately need. Unless we add something good in FA or do something unsuspecting. It’s not relying on a rookie, it’s having better talent to work with and mold, that’s the difference.

I really don’t think Grier will last past the second round and I wouldn’t want him unless he’s a value pick and falls.

Arm strength wasn't Clausen's problem. The issue was that he was a "flatline" thrower with no arc under his passes.

I never looked.  Not a game changer for me--I  was referring to the conversion of 10 million to bonus that made it impossible to cut him last year. I told you that I was not sure about the details.  My bad.

I mean, my point was he wasn’t an NFL QB.  I know Marty picked Cam but he was clearly the top player.
