One of the best pass rushers in the game for pick 28 and a late second next year.  KC made out.

Not sure paying someone 21 million and they aren't a QB is making out. That is crazy money. What happens when Mahomes gets his 5th year option for 25 million. That is almost 50 million for 2 players.

I mean how much are Kalil+KK making?

That’s the market not the players. Even if KC stays the same they’re competing for a trophy. The Panthers are not.

I’d rather have Clark and Mahomes for what they’re paying them than what we have for less.

How will Clark play AFTER getting paid is really wants going to determine whether this was a good move or not.

Andy always makes a GREAT move and follows it with a terrible one.

Beyond dumb to trade away Ford and do this deal.

Aren't they switching to a 4-3, they probably didn't want to pay a guy who doesn't fit their jew direction. And Clarks better with a higher ceiling

Ford could have easily added 20 lbs and been a 4-3 DE, plus he would have been cheaper and they keep the 1st AND 2nd. Not to mention all the off-field risk and Ford had none of that too. KC traded Ford, a first, and extra millions for Clark.

Kalil isn't on the team and KK cap hit is 17 million. Clark is now the highest paid defensive linemen so that wasn't the market until he set it. And who wouldn't want Mahomes on a rookie deal. But when the 5th year option is due and Clark's contract is backloaded  that will be a ton of money for 2 players. Secondly we have as good a chance as KC to compete for the playoffs this year. As long as Cam is healthy we can go 11-5 or 12-4 this year. This offense is loaded and under Rivera the defense is going to be much improved

So yeah we don't know how hard Clark will play but I expect his best not worse. I understand that KC is all in at this point and this makes sense for them. I am glad we didn't get in the sweepstakes. 21 million a year for a DE. It wasn't 5 years ago that was a lot for a quarterback.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
