Official general NFL Draft Day 2 open thread

This situation is fascinating and quite comparable to Indy two years ago. I’m surrounded by Colts fans and when Luck missed a season and a half due to shoulder issues, not one person was clamoring for a backup to one day replace Luck. No one was jumping for joy when they traded for Brissett to fill in for a bit. They all said “let’s draft and sign help for Luck so when he comes back he won’t get killed”. Meanwhile many Carolina fans are wanting to have Grier replace cam bc they think he’s garbage. Instead of getting cam help, we get a guy who won’t play. I like Grier, I think he is a solid qb, but not that early.

We don’t deserve cam. I can just see that old white woman on twitter saying we should draft a qb with our first pick smiling right now.

This entire fugging fellating fanbase doesn't deserve either Cam OR Luke.  Patheticness and weakness pervades their genetics.

Forgot about Hooker. Probably take him over Thompson. Between those three and Wrenn, gotta figure at least one will be there at our pick.

He's the next best, IMO.  In past mocks, I had him being taken with that #100 pick that we took a backup QB with.  Thompson looked horrible in the Natty game and lack-luster during the draft process.

I don’t get it...why not give cam as much talent as you can, or make the defense as best as you can to win now. If cam struggles, then think about moving on, or draft a qb day three or the next year. I’ve said it before, I like Grier, just not that early.

No one is saying Grier should start. Is it wrong to have a contingency plan in case last year starts? Man people go nuts around here if Cam is threatened whatsoever.

Do you REALLY think a back-up, rookie QB would take a team with so many holes (because of things like DRAFTING A BACK-UP QB WITH A 3RD ROUND PICK) to a play-off spot?

Are you that fugging naive?

We could have gotten Grier or the NC State kid tomorrow.

I would have liked a FS there regardless of Cams remaining ability.

The Panther's management has pretty much blasted, across all media outlets, "THESE ARE THE PLAYERS WE INTEND TO PICK, I DARE YOU TO FUG WITH US!"

Which is always a direct method of success, no?

The roof had a leak but the rough shingles got replaced and will be good to go, this rough was top of the line, when in tact it’s what you’d call an MVP roof. I see what you are saying, but we could get a qb tomrw to be a quality backup.

Who, and with what cap space?

One thing that's pretty clear: The Panthers are nowhere near as certain of Newton's health as you and some other fans are.

They don't know if it's good. They don't know if it's bad. Basically, they just don't know. And some of our resident insiders have confirmed but they're pretty nervous about that whole "not knowing" thing. Hence, they have to try and make plans to ensure that what happened last season doesn't happen again.

If you've been paying attention, it's been pretty obvious that the Panthers were going to get a backup quarterback this offseason, one way or the other. It was just a question of how it's going to happen. And this is the path they chose.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
