3-4 Defense

He doesn't have any burst or bend to offer anything as a five tech. People seem to have a false impression of this guy's athleticism. He was 5.33 guy with mediocre three cone and shuttle times. He may have looked good against his subpar college competition, but for a small school guy those workouts should've been big red flags that he very well might not translate to the NFL. His workouts said JAG and they proved to be foretelling.

I'm not a huge workout guy, but I do think they matter a lot more to the small school guys who went up against lesser competition.

Do you really see him as a space eater, though?

3-4 nose tackle is one of the most difficult defensive line positions there is.

No, not really. I just think he probably has a better shot at that than as a five tech. I think he's just a plain bust but I hope we can find some way to get something out of him.

With his movement skills, if he can't be a space eater then he probably just doesn't have a place in the NFL.

Honesty with Rivera calling plays and running the defense and staying out of Norvs way on offense I'm actually excited. Rivera will make our defense good and Norv will give us a good offense. Game management will probably still suck though.

My concern is that if the D gets off to a good start, Ron will hand the reins back over to Washington. Washington is still the DC in title.

I know that Ron can somewhat cover for a glaring hole at FS, I just don't understand why he seems so hell-bent on forcing himself to cover for that glaring hole.

You guys kill me, where are the 3-4 ends, we're talking guys just shy of / over 300 lbs

NT - Poe, Love, TJ Barnes (if he even makes the roster)

34 DE - KK, Butler

We are in the 5th right now, and a full on switch isn't gonna work with the DL we have available right now. The 3-4 that's been discussed now has the depth at edge rush to be a viable option to rotate with our 4-3 personnel we're still going to see plenty of even fronts, especially from the nickel personnel.

And we just drafted a HB in the 5th so...

I've been trying to tell everyone this all off season.

The fact that we paid Poe a roster bonus this off season was a pretty good clue.  Under our 4-3 I'm not sure his production matched up with this cap hit.

Also for everyone that is penciling in Butler as the other DE from what I saw at the end of the last season they played him a lot at NT when we went 3-4.  This is why I thought some of the DTs in this draft were in play for us.  Guys such as Wilkins or Tillery that go also play 3-4 end.  If I remember correctly they actually had Love as one of the DEs, and Cox also.

I think we will grab a S in FA. Rivera has never put too much value in that position for whatever the reason.

I mean, he kinda tested close to what Jurrell Casey did, and he's a pretty good 3/4 DE...that said he was drafted in the 3rd if IIRC, but he's a heckova player.

Hopefully we can get something out of him.

Yeah, I'll be happy if we get anything out of him at this point.
