Panthers, Texans Among Five Most Intriguing Teams After 2019 NFL Draft

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers were in the top-six in the league in sacks in 2015, 2016 and 2017. Last year, they dropped to 27th. Edge rusher was a huge need for this team as they transition into more 3-4 looks, and GM Marty Hurney grabbed a long, rangy and athletic rusher in Brian Burns with their No. 16 pick. He followed that up by addressing Carolina’s second-greatest need at offensive tackle, trading up in the second (and probably spending a bit more than he should have) on Mississippi tackle Greg Little to protect Cam Newton’s blindside. And speaking of Newton, with cautious optimism surrounding his surgically repaired throwing shoulder, the Panthers drafted their first QB since Newton with the 100th overall pick in Will Grier. Add in the Panthers getting another hybrid player in Christian Miller and a running back in Jordan Scarlett that should end the continued four-year look at Cameron Artis-Payne and the Panthers may be back in the playoffs in 2019.

I mean, if Cam's protected and his shoulder doesn't fall off, we're a playoff team last year.  With a shitty defense.

IF Cam can put together a healthy season and remain protected, I don't see any way this team has gotten worse, than the should be playoff team they were last year who sputtered out.

Out of everyone lost, who besides flashes of TD or Peppers is truly a loss?  Meanwhile, Reid gets a full season, young guys progress, Olsen might actually play, OL is improved, and we don't have to pretend Eric Washington is a DC. We have some things to prove, but this is a playoff capable roster.  If they don't make it, heads should roll.

Ron in charge of the D with a healthy Cam taking advantage of all his O weapons, makes the Panthers a playoff contender.

If Cam's arm es no bueno, Carolina will be drafting another QB in the 1st round of the 2020 draft.

Yeah right. We got our QB this year!

Well look at it this way. If we don’t make the playoffs with this roster and a healthy Cam, Ron and Marty are definitely going to be fired and we will have an entire new regime to screw things up.

If this year is a total dumpster fire I can see this happening, but if the team is doing a major transition on D, I'd suspect Tepper is giving Ron and Company at least a couple of years to let things play out.

i think we bounce back next year, buying at least an xtra year to get this defense rolling.

I’m excited. Remember Ron ran a 3-4 back in the day with the Chargers and he had a top 10 defense every year. Looks like he’s getting back to his bread and butter. He’s still one of the better defensive minds in the league so let’s see what he does with his new chess pieces.
