Casino right outside Charlotte?

Yea this has been going on for years. I think it’d be awesome and would bring more people and revenue for Charlotte. I understand why Cherokee is but hurt, if this happened, the Cherokee casino would become a ghost town and that tribe/area would suffer big time.

But in a fair market, if Cherokee was allowed to build one so should Catawba. The issue is supposedly NC land but honestly if Catawba built it on their land in SC, Cherokee would still suffer.

Cherokee is a a Casino out in the middle of no where, hard to compete with a Casino an hour outside of a city.

I don't think that's true. The Great Smoky Mountains are the number 1 visited National Park year after year. People who are vacationing in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge or anywhere in the smokies, love to take that short drive to the casino. Not everyone going to the casino is from the Charlotte area

At this point you’re mixing leisure activities. People vacation at the smokies, Gatlinburg and Forge for scenery. Camping. Hunting. Wildlife. Relaxation. You think people like that say well let’s hit up a casino and have a good time before our hungover hike in the smokies?  And the people who do stop in to just the ‘see’ the casino isn’t what makes it successful.

When I say I’m the middle of no where, I’m talking about for what it is, a Casino. And I don’t know about you but it feels out of place every time I go there. No night life, no nice restaurants or activities outside the casino that are casino related. And anyone from a city is going to drive hours to it. Just enough hours that you will stay  the night and if you’re staying the night, more attractions are needed.

I get it, that’s because it’s on Indian land and no where else they could build it. Also, every time I go there I’d say half or more people are from Charlotte or very close to it. I have never talked with someone in the Casino that was vacationing in the mountains, no once.

But a Casino outside a city is more desirable for more of those very reasons. Not only is it closer, meaning you can day gamble and not have to stay the night, it means you also have access to all the city has. And for those with a Casino mindset, that’s important.

^^

Not everyone goes to the Casino to get drunk and spend money.  Some just go to relax and not worry about anything and Cherokee is a nice retreat for that.  Many people will still visit Cherokee no matter what pops up between there and Charlotte.   If anything, perhaps a casino closer to Charlotte will build up some lucky winners, who take that money out to Cherokee, who might not have been able to afford it otherwise.

No matter what, just make sure it's not ghetto as hell. We have one here in Queens that brings in the dregs of society. Horrible, horrible place.

I’d doubt it’d be ‘ghetto’ lol

If anything, in the Carolinas, it’d be trashy, if done wrong. It’d look like Cherokee.

Cherokee Casino is filled with ages 60+ playing the slots, wasting away retirement and dying of lung cancer. It’s nothing like a Vegas casino.

And despite it’s best efforts bringing events to the place that are catered towards younger generations (concerts that are appealing even to me), I’ve never seen that place filled with an attractive, night life type population.

That would change with one close to Charlotte, I believe. And Charlotte is no Queens lol. You’d get some redneck and trashy clientele but you’d get an exiting environment, something I have never seen at Cherokee after years of going there just because for the night life in Charlotte it’s be something else to do. There is literally nothing to do in Charlotte past 11pm.

This one is called Resorts World Casino. Just imagine your average Wal Mart shopper ... but since it's Queens you get diversity. So, a Wal Mart shopper but every nationality under the sun. If you've ever asked the question: What does a redneck look like in (insert country), just stop on over.

I've always heard the Cherokee like to throw their political clout/weight around to keep other tribes down, wonder if that is going on here.    I've heard about it when the Lumbees wanted to do something like this.

They have been trying for years, but while recognized federally, they don't have all the benefits of other recognized tribes.

Last time they went for full recognition, the bill had a no gaming clause in it.

Either way, I'm in for another casino closer to a city.

    • NEVER FORGET!!!!   Canales was on no one's radar. Tepper couldn't get anyone to come here. He was all in on Ben Johnson. Nobody wants to work with Tepper, however Canales tenure may prove important for the next guy. This guy still has no idea what he's doing.
    • The 4th down play was poor execution by Chuba. He didn't want to get physical like Rico and cut North South to lean on his blocks from Tremble and Ekwonu for half a yard. Also, the 3rd down play before that Bryce audibled out to a QB run and almost got the 1st down was on Chuba for not knowing the play call leading to poor execution. You can see Chuba's confusion when Bryce had to realign him. Then Chuba thought he was getting the handoff and was slow to develop his double team on the DE with Tremble. Then Chuba hesitated on pushing the block and just ran to the sideline making Bryce have to loop around him. This pulled the DE away from Tremble forcing Chuba to chip on the DE late and leaving the safety as a free defender. Chuba was suppose to double down on the DE to let Tremble peel off to the safety. This allows Bryce to set up his run to the inside or outside after the safety commits. You can also see Tremble walk over to talk to Chuba after the play and Chuba shrugs which tells me he didn't know what to do. The audible would have worked on 3rd and the dive would have worked on 4th. The plays were good calls and drawn up well. The question is why was Chuba unprepared for those plays in two critical back to back plays? I like Chuba as a 1st down RB and passing downs, but I have always seen him lacking the power and vision to be a short yardage power back. Chuba didn't come prepared for the Saints game or he was thrown into a position at the 3 spot that he was never prepared for.
    • Yeah man, that was a catch. I like to imagine the game isn’t rigged but it’s well known sports betting is ruining the sport. Unfortunately, most coaches plan for 3 phases of the game. But there is really 4, offense, defense, special teams, and special occasions. on special occasions the refs can influence the game, leaving you in positions your actively planning to stay out of and how you respond in those special occasions make or break the game. Other times it’s other reasons. But I like to hope that the right team, or right player can extend past those types of setbacks and still find a way. anywho, probably a pipe dream. But it’s how I see it.
