From the "are we surprised? Not really" column:

WBT (Entercom) has signed a multi-year extension to continue as the Panthers flagship radio station.

  • News Talk 1110 will continue to provide game broadcasts with Mick Mixon and Jim Szoke (no mention of Jake in the press release).
  • The Coaches Show will air on Mondays on WBT.
  • Steve Smith, Damione Lewis, and Moose will provide segments to 610 The Fan WFNZ

Regarding Mixon, it’s become one of those things where I don’t want him to get fired because I’d feel bad for him.

Why? He is atrocious at his job. He seems like a nice enough guy but he's made a lot of money and he will find another job. He would be fine.

That all sounded good until I got to the part about Mixon.  Man that dude is horrible.  I wish Szoke did the damn games.

I agree!!  Everyone I know to include myself has no idea why Mixon is still around.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
