Suppose Cam is done for 2019

Recommended Posts

Apparently NFL defenses have "figured" Newton out after a preseason game against the Patriots in Foxborough where they were rushing 7 against 5 and the Panthers were running a vanilla base offense with zero gameplanning

Some of you need to get out of the house.

D coordinators have figured out if you blitz Cam he is undisciplined and bails out. That is easy to defend. Look at Grier's play to Bonnafon to see how to beat the blitz even when they come in unblocked. If a rookie can figure it out you would think a 9 year veteran could do the same

We get chastised for suggesting that Cam can be better, because "he has carried our offense since he has been here.We need other players to step up, instead of Cam to improve his basic fundamentals!!" Lmao

Take this FWIW......from 1st half of last year

And, over the course of the year, he ranked near the bottom.  https://fantasydata.com/advanced-metrics-the-best-and-worst-qbs-under-pressure

He is average at best against the pressure and with his injury history, teams are going to be coming at him all year.   He will either stay healthy and get huge yards throwing to our speedy receivers or get another injury and end the season again.

I thought it was fair to judge when he was somewhat healthy. But I fully expect everyone to make of it what they want to.

Your stats are pressure in general. Mine was specific to blitz(the subject). But, do what you gotta do.

Just answering the Hand Grenade thrown...

if Cam was done... you suck and fight it out for the number 1 pick with Indy,..

Thats easy,... just let Will be our new Pickles and let him start the rest of the season...

but he’s not,.. Cams probably the most physically gifted to ever play quarterback successfully in the NFL,.. a twisted ankle in the preseason isn’t stopping him...

And Grier didn't have starters on offense at that point so it equals out. What they figured out is that Cam turns his back to his receivers and bails out opposite of the blitz so you rush him up the middle or from the right. Then rotate your secondary to the left not the right because that is where he will be running instead of throwing into the blitz or calling a hot read on the right.

I agree there should be more hot reads/routes. But I'm not sure if receivers are recognizing hot. They're just running their called 2+ seconds routes and by then the QB is in escape mode.

You can't judge the QB without seeing what his targets are doing. Olsen does a good job recognizing pressure and breaking off his route, but he is a TE and has to stay in block on alot if those blitzes - probably by defensive design.

The funny thing is that they make excuses for him that he would disagree with.  He always wants to get better and takes responsibility when he screws up. It is his excuse patrol that always blames everyone and everything else not Cam.

That's not true. Most posters call Cam out when he is not playing well.

If Brady was getting the pressure Cam was getting, it would have to be the oline fault when he didn't complete passes, right? It would have to be his receivers not being where they're supposed to be, right?

Many times Cam can make a different decision or a quicker read, but he shouldn't have to be perfect.

I see everyone who resides on Fantasy Island says Cam will be fine, and he probably will be going into week one.

If our line doesn’t get it together what do you think Aaron Donald is going to do to him? He’ll freakin eat him alive. How many hits does he take before his body just quits on him? He’s not a rookie anymore.

Hurney should’ve signed a vet a long time ago instead of trusting the backup role to a guy who beat an Aints team that wasn’t trying and a rookie. This could cost him his job.

True that it takes both QBs and receivers to make it work. Given we are playing Blitzburg this week we should be working on these for sure whether Cam plays or not.

There are three kind of Cam posters here. Haters, Cam slob bobbers and those in the middle. There are very few of us in the middle though. Such is the nature of being a polarizing figure.

    • At the moment? Absolutely not. Maybe if they drop the next three in a row and go into the deadline at 3-6 I can see an argument to be made to move Rico as he's on a 1yr deal. I'd rather keep Chuba's contract though and roll with ETN + JB next season. The team will have plenty of time to see how JB is looking going into the offseason a year-plus after his surgery to know whether or not they need to plan for another direction.
    • I forgot to mention my thoughts on the rushing grade! 😮 He ran his ass off both weeks. I can't remember the stat offhand but didn't he have something crazy like 120+ yards after contact vs. Dallas? Against Miami he had lanes as wide as the entirety of I-95 to run through which is why his rushing grade wasn't as high as this week's. He's ran like a man possessed and going to earn himself some money in the offseason.
    • I'm not sure how much I'm changing mid year, especially when we are seeing some success.    Most Pass Rushers are physically gifted. Scheme and personnel help, but you gotta have the Jimmys and Joes, especially at that position.    We will likely lose games when the other team can throw for 400 yards, and has multiple high level receivers, but I think at this point in the development of our franchise, we have to be ok with that. You can't address every single issue at once. Really looks like we have plugged some holes on offense, and definitely in run defense. In the next draft, if we hit on a CB, an ILB and a Pass rusher, we will be pretty dangerous.
