Depends on who starts. Realistic scenario:

If 3 QBs play I look for Allen to throw 4 checkdowns and 1 incomplete deep ball. Ellis and others will tout his leadership and confidence. Some will say he should be cut and work at KFC or probably Popeyes because of the new chicken sandwich, which is in no way better than Chick Fil A, but i digress.

Grier will throw 6 checkdowns, one of which will go for 15-20 yards. He’ll either get picked once or will have a pick dropped. The entire Huddle will demand his release on Saturday and call him the worst Panther of all time.

Heinicke will go like 11-17 for 86 yards and will be touted as the best of the 3. He’ll be cut though. 

A minimum of 100 huddlers will demand we sign Kaepernick. 

The weird old guy who posts that same gif will gloat over us struggling in part because it means he believes Ron will be fired, but more because he actively roots against the Panthers when Cam isn’t on the field.

He will argue with every last person who posts anything because that’s all the hell he does on here. He’ll also quote this post and reply with that same gif, because he thinks it’s funny to post the same gif repeatedly which is great, because no one else thinks it’s funny at all.

He's looked decent in limited preseason action, but Lord have mercy did he look terrible in the game he started last year. Got injured before he could finish it to boot.

This is gonna sound cruel but I am not worried about Will Grier in that regard. David Carr was a #1 overall draft pick and a very talented guy(who eventually contracted battered QB syndrome). Will Grier was a pretty lightly regarded middle round QB who probably has a ceiling of "journeyman backup." If he fails, he fails.

I don't want to add anyone at QB. I am comfortable with throwing Grier out there in a run heavy offense if needed.

What do back ups do to earn their money if Cam is healthy?  They get paid to watch the game and high five the starters.  So... still want to blow a lot of money on a back up?

If Cam can’t survive this OL - no QB can so don’t waste your money.

Honestly I think the best options are already here. You can't give up anything in a trade for one. Kyle Allen is the best backup we have. You might could sign one next year. Grier will need years to develop into anything near a backup. Allen has the instinct and throw to compete but our O line or run game isn't top notch without the threat of Cam himself to allow Allen to have any safety net. We will have CAP behind CMC as some mediocre bullshit. Were putting in full trust to Moton and GVR. Past that we have no depth on the line.

good point.. If I were them - that list of Backup QBs is just as bad as what we got on the roster. might as well hang my hat on "my" guys (Allen, Heineken and Grier) rather than go out and pay more $$ for guys that might be a fraction of a percentage better AND will have to be brought up to speed during the season..

i think the idea that Kaepernick was some star who made a sacrifice and lost his career over it is hilarious but im not gonna pretend he wouldnt be a vastly superior option than Allen and Grier would be. This team would not win 3 games with either of those 2 playing the whole season. Kaep could at least keep defenses honest and complete the occasional slant to Samuel or Moore. The “I stand for the flag and kneel at the cross” fans are already butthurt over Reid being in a jersey so adding Kaep wont hurt. Im gonna throw up if i ever see Grier or Allen take a meaningful snap
