2018 Draft Class

This group has a real chance to contribute in 2019. 88% retention rate: That’s great stuff, assuming each of these guys (sans Norton) make the final cut. I don’t see an avenue for any of them getting cut at this point.

Haynes, Carter and Smith were great picks late in the draft. You could also put Thomas in that group.

I think Gaulden gets cut at best is 50/50.

Still earlier returns are GREAT.

Hurney needed badly to have a great 18 class and so far it is.

People forget a good draft is 2 starters and 1 top backup/STer. This 19 class is looking promising too.

Really should consider Obada part of that class, too.

Regardless, Hurney hit it out of the park last year... and it was needed badly considering how old the team had gotten and how many keys guys retired/weren't resigned

Gaulden should make the team if all the ancillary stuff is resolved with him and Rivera. The guy just has a knack for making plays when he is in games. Some guys don't practice that well but play well. I think he's one of them.

    • I wonder if the Hornets view Kon and McNeeley more as forwards and plan to ship off Green/Okogie/Smith for center help. I hope they don’t plan to ship off Sexton as I like what he brings to the team. (2) G - Ball, Mann, Simpson (two-way) (3) G - Sexton, Dinwiddie, Connaughton (3) F - Miller, Knueppel, McNeeley, James (two-way) (3) F - Bridges, Williams, Salaun (3) C - Diabate, Kalkbrenner, Plumlee
    • 3 main reasons he was better in 2023 and none of them concern me for his NFL prospects 1. Totally new coaching staff that was a massive downgrade and had god awful play calling and designs, the entire fan base was ready to run the coaching staff out of town a month into their first season and the play caller ended up getting changed because it was so bad. 2. Along with the staff downgrade, his QB played significantly worse after being the Pac 12 Freshman of the Year in 2023.  Constantly missed T-Mac when he was wide open, lost out on a number of TDs and a good amount of yardage, half the time T-Mac still almost made miraculous catches on the bad passes too. 3. He hurt his ankle over the summer and missed all of fall camp only to return to practice a few days before the season started and I think he had to deal with it all season long and was slightly limping at times mid season too, but kept fighting through it to still be a 1st team All American.
    • Good luck to Burns. He’s fine as a third pairing defensemen but Rod is too stubborn to do that.
