London travel company issue

How? Thomas Cook is gone. How can the NFL guarantee something they don’t really have a record of? Does the NFL keep track of every person that purchased tickets? With Thomas Cook gone, how does the NFL know that Bob Smith and his wife are seated in section 212 row 4 seats 10 and 11. You are making a big assumption that there are even real empty seats.

Normally when I buy something there's a proof of purchase involved. Send proof of purchase to NFL. NFL checks whether ticket was originally sold to/through Thomas Cook. NFL re-issues ticket. There might be some counterfeit risks involved but this would be a very small overhead on the NFLs part.

Given these are all e-tickets now, i doubt  that Thomas Cook would have been issuing them anyway, they would have passed the purchasers details to the NFL to be issued.

As it stands, the NFL have probably taken Thomas Cook's money and wont issue the tickets to the people that paid for them. - Edit, according to the article NFL haven't recieved any money for those tickets - but still they could offer them for free to people that have a large chunk of cash.

My understanding of it would be that they bought some kind of travel package which would have included plane fare, hotel accommodations and tickets to the game.

They're not going to wind up getting any of those things. Neither are they getting their money back.

To put it mildly, that sucks.

Some trip insurance really would have come in handy here.

It appears the Thomas Cook Company sold a bunch of "tickets" even though they had never purchased any tickets from the NFL.

Better read that fine print on the trip insurance.

Lets say a couple are going....for say 4 nights, and have decent/good seats.  My guess is $4,000 minimum on the entire trip.

A lot of TI places will pay up to 1,700, some only 1,250.  Please don't ask how I know.

Either way, I feel really bad for the folks who got hustled, hopefully some of their credit cards can help.

Lol. Who would setup the trip insurance? Thomas Cook. If you aren’t getting the trip, then you aren’t likely to get the trip insurance.

Agreed, they are hard enough to deal with during an actual trip interruption...etc....in this instance it would likely be impossible to get anything from them.

The are tons of reputable trip insurance providers from whom one can purchase a policy that is independent of any vendor one may be using for a trip.

Possibly, but I highly doubt it.  You ever tried to deal with one of them?

My guess, they will say you bought your stuff through a vendor who wasn't reputable, and sorry but they cannot help.

Just my hunch though after fighting with them for months on end last year this time.

All I can tell you all is check, double check and triple check. Thomas Cook is one of, if not the largest travel company in Europe.

They have 21,000 employees, all now unemployed. They own four airlines, now sitting on the tarmac. They left 150,000 travelers stranded all over the world.

Up until they went belly up Thomas cook was reputable.

Ive bought trip insurance before and had to make a claim.  It was fairly easy and they didn’t question it over what was specifically stated in the policy.  Different circumstances for sure but I wat reimbursed about 1k. Was not cheated at all. Travel insurance was through a company called Allianz.  Not recommending. Just stating a fact.
