Holy poo @ Atlanta Falcons

loomis' dark magicks have made the cap pointless

Not really, they’ve been in cap hell for years and that’s why they had so many straight 7-9 type seasons despite having Brees. Only thing that got them out of it was an outstanding (damn near perfect actually) draft in 2017.

Both the Aints and Cons are in the same box which is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen

Difference between the two is that recently, the Aints have balanced their spending, while the Falcons cap hit next year will have 70 million in three offensive players (Julio, Matt, and Jake Matthews).

The Falcons manage their cap space like a fan base might, instead of as a smart GM might.

they could bounce back quick. if that defense was even middle of the road they'd be a great team

I dunno.

They don't have an abundance of draft picks. They will probably be drafting top 3, especially if Ryan is hurt.

They have no cap space, so they'll have to get creative on that front.

They're locked in to Ryan and Julio for at least three more years, so you'd think the next coach is going to come from an offensive background.

The next GM/FO person is going to have to deal with that hideous cap situation and two franchise players on the wrong side of 30 with horrible contracts.

Honestly, if they end up with the first overall, it might make sense to see if you can move Ryan. See if a team like the bears can send a 7th and just take him off your hands.

Julio could be moved but not to many teams, and again they're not going to get anything for him. Someone like the Colts could absorb that hit easily.

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
