High School cancels football season, fires entire coaching staff

Quote

A St. Louis high school has cancelled the rest of their football season and fired every coach on staff after a suspended player wore a different number and participated in a game. Cardinal Ritter College Prep, which was undefeated at 7-0, suspended the rest of their season after junior running back Bill Jackson was found to have played in their season opener, even though he was supposed to be serving a one-game suspension, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The RB was given the suspension after being ejected from last year's title game, but the team found a way to disguise Jackson, or so they thought.

Instead of his normal No. 4, he wore No. 24 and went under a freshman named "Marvin Burks." It was Jackson's tattoos that ended up giving him away. Jackson, as well as head coach Brandon Gregory, both went along with the lie that the junior didn't play, despite him actually putting up 109 yards on the ground and scoring a 56-yard touchdown in the 32-21 win.

Gregory told the Post-Dispatch that the imaginary freshman Burks, "earned" the start and that "it was his time to play ball." Jackson also put his acting skills to the test, telling the newspaper that "watching last week, it wasn't fun at all. It gave me a spark."

As a result of the incident in the most recent game, Cardinal Ritter school president Tamiko Armstead decided to void the entire season. The school also announced that every person on the coaching staff has been "permanently released."

It's unbelievable they thought they could get away with it. How could they be so stupid? Hell, how did they evidently get away with it for 6-7 weeks?

At least kids learned a valuable lesson. If you're talented enough, excuses will be made for you and you'll get to play be a completely different set of rules than the rest of the population.

    • Pretty sure Tepper wanted BY regardless of the coach. Unfortunately for Panthers fans. I am confident Reich did not want BY.
    • But they went with a smile… and some acid reflux.
    • Prediction? We likely lose.  Maybe look okay doing it.  It could be different with some turnovers coming to us.   In general I don’t have the same faith in what we will get from Andy that I had in the week three games of the two previous years.   I was very confident as to what we would see last year vs the Raiders and was validated.  The patchwork OL worries me, in pass pro, with him being old and creaky and not exactly being ‘cat like’ in his escapability. And somewhat concerned about his arm strength. I mean in general, I think he could still be ‘as good once as he ever was’ which is a huge upgrade from Bryce.   But it is still another year of aging and at some point it’s over… people say it is for him, I haven’t seen enough of him this season to say otherwise.  Add the fact that they are generally a more seasoned and tested team than we are, players to staff. I am skeptical. But that is why they play the games, we don’t know for sure.
