It’s interesting that Wilks got his HC opportunity so quickly, I didn’t think he was a great play called in his one year. McD was much much better.

Wilks has long been acknowledged as a great interview.

I still think Keim shafted him.

McD was great DC, Wilks ran an OK defense and Washington wasn't even near anything good. Maybe he will be ready at some point and maybe not, great position coach that couldn't to date make the jump to DC. Ron was a great DC, he should just keep the duties because it's his strongest asset.

Ron deserves at least a little bit of re-evaluation himself.

I would still say that he's weak as a talent evaluator / personnel manager and I continue to question his in-game adjustments and decisions, but one of the biggest complaints against him has been poor game management. Truth be told, evidence is now pointing to the idea that those problems were not his fault.

The fact Taylor Henicke had a job over Kyle Allen for 16 whole weeks says something...The saints had their starting defense out there for at least 1 qtr and Kyle torched them. I started to question this when someone who is 5-0 as an NFL starter (week 17 showed this did not start this year) got cut for someone who couldn’t crack the roster this year. That’s why to me the whole why couldn’t Kyle win it in practice argument makes no sense. Nobody takes into account the backup never gets the 1s while the starter gets snaps with the 1s 100%. Not a fair comparison. All I have to say is anybody with accuracy like Kyles will have a job.

Valid.

As an aside, I chuckle a little when people say "Wow, what an amazing job the team did finding Kyle Allen."

Yeah...no.

We cut Allen from the practice squad what, three times last year? (I'm thinking at least twice). Heck, if Taylor Heinicke hadn't gotten injured, Allen might still be unemployed right now.

That wasn't brilliance or insight. We got lucky.

It's the same thing when people credit the Patriots for being geniuses because they got Tom Brady in the 6th round. Bulsh-t. If they were geniuses, it wouldn't have taken Drew Bledsoe getting injured for him to see game time.

He didn't do a good job in 2018 but that doesn't mean he can't learn and improve. Calling all the plays in after getting them from Rivera helps him understand the calls and how to implement them in a game. He is still relatively young and with experience there is every hope he can improve and become a good DC

I bet the Patriots had people who wanted Bledsoe back.

He is fine.  He wasn't ready for the job and Ron let it last too long.

Calling plays is really freaking hard and it takes an amazing working memory.

And he could be catching on to the knack of it. A lot of folks aren't willing to give someone a chance to learn their craft, forgetting that there were times in their own careers where someone waited patiently on them to learn the ropes.
