I disagree with the notion the observer has had bad coverage. Rodrigue is the best writer and has done some really good work. Joe Person is no longer with them so the mediocre part is gone.

The franchise has been around for a quarter of a century and the first person that comes to mind is a junior reporter that has only been here for a few years?  Pretty telling don't you think?

Well to be fair, not if she was really good, and she was (and is).

The best Observer beat reporter prior to her was probably Charles Chandler.

I've enjoyed the various journalists at the Charlotte Observer over the years (likely longer than most here).

But as good as they occasionally are with their coverage of the Panthers, that coverage doesn't begin to measure up to many of the papers in other NFL cities when it comes to quality or quantity.  Again, my prior post was generally positive and hopeful that the Observer would be doing more in the way of Panthers coverage.  I'm somewhat surprised it was viewed as controversial.

Chandler once did a human interest story on the church league basketball team I was the point guard for as a senior in high school about how the team was made up of kids from literally all over the world, including southeast Asian kids who had never played basketball before.

I remember being impressed because he took copious notes, interviewed about 15 people, and had complete command of facts and stories about my own teammates that I had never heard before after hearing them once. His article conveyed the story of our disparate backgrounds and improbable assembly into a team rather skillfully.

l had been playing and practicing with these other kids for months, but after reading his article I felt I knew them in a way I had not before. I paid closer attention to his writing after that and agree he was probably the best.

There's a general perception that Jerry Richardson didn't exactly allow full transparency with The Observer for a long time.

Given the way his story turned out, that wouldn't exactly be a huge surprise.
