Here's an updated look at the combined current W-L records of the Panthers past 7 opponents: 28-24-1 (.538)

And here's the current W-L records of their 9 upcoming FUTURE opponents: 39-32 (.549)

Not an easy schedule. Only ATL & WAS have losing records among future opponents.

I still say 10-6 gets us a wild card game...on the road

11-5 for a home game

means we have to go 6-3...or 7-2

after yesterday I don’t know if we have it in us...Saints (2), at packers, at colts, Seattle at home

actually there is likely no way

10-6 wont do it unless SEA and MIN start losing at a much more rapid pace.  We are essentially 2 games behind them bc of our terrible conference record. We won’t have any tie breakers with anyone, including the Rams. 11-5 is what we will need.  I think that’s a tall order after yesterday.

I just did a quick guesstimate of what I think the likely minimum number of wins for our rivals are based on their remaining schedules.

SF, NO, GB - all look like 12+ win teams.

Vikings and Seahawks look like 10+ win teams.

I think we'd have to get to 10-6 (with a head to head win over the Seahawks) or more likely 11-5 to win a spot.  And even if we beat the Seahawks and go 10-6, we'd have a problem if the Rams also go 10-6 since they have a head to head over us.

Basically it's a REALLY tough road ahead.

We must:  Beat Washington. Beat Tennessee.  Sweep Atlanta.  (That gets us to 8 wins).

We then need to win 3 of the following 5:  GB, NO x 2, SEA, IND.

Possible, maybe, but not super likely unless the team REALLY quickly figures out what went so wrong and how to improve upon its weaknesses... things like O line protection and run defense aren't necessarily quick fixes.

We really need to take a hard look at that OL next season. It was our number one issue in this past offseason and it didn't improve very much, even with the moves we made.

i don't know.  our tradition of having inadequate safety, returner, and o-line play has been working out pretty well for us the last 15 years.   why change now.

I forgot to include this info above:

Current records of Panthers future opponents:

  • TEN  4-4
  • GB    7-1
  • ATL  1-7 (2 games)
  • NO    7-1 (2 games)
  • WAS 1-7
  • SEA  6 -2
  • IND  5 - 2

& even though Atlanta looks awful this year, as a division rival, they know how to beat us. Can't automatically assume 2 easy wins for CAR! Yikes.

This team might win one more game out of those.

The Patriots did in 2014, but they are the exception that proves the rule. It was also week 4 and they were 2-1 with a bad loss to a mediocre Miami team week 1 and close win (7 points) over a shitty Oakland team (3-13 that year) week 3. They struggled out of the gate so it wasn’t super shocking that a good well oiled team handed them their ass. Our D was looking great and we had won 4 in a row when we got shellacked after a bye week so not even the same scenario to feel optimistic.

No team can be compared to what the Patriots do. They are in a league of their own and heading to another Superbowl title. All we can do is watch and envy.

I’m glad to read that “the book”/“the blueprint” on how to beat us is to draft a d line of top 10 picks for half a decade and get one of the best offensive minds in football to coach against us. Should be easily repeatable by everyone.

We can win and we will win some of the “tough” games ahead. We have a better team than last year where talent felt shaky. I believe in our o line and believe our defense will bounce back. If Cam comes back and gets in shape/in rhythm quickly, we can gut out a playoff appearance and try to make a run. If he comes back healthy this team still hasn’t even reached its ceiling.
