Is this even 100% confirmed?

It looks to me like one person posted it, and a bunch of people latched on.

The original report? The first one to report anything about this was Josina Anderson this morning. She said a source of her’s saw Newton at the airport in Chicago. There was no mention of a boot. She then reported that he was on his way to the good doctor in Green Bay.

Rap Sheet followed up with his analysis, that things weren’t progressing. Joe Person provided some analysis, that Newton could be seeking a second opinion. Jourdan added some depth to that person tweet, highlighting that Ron has been saying he’s in the “middle” of the process.

That’s all reporting I’ve really followed on this.

Not about being a good coach, it’s about shelf life. Just guessing here but, @Mr. Scot might know more but like 3% of coaches actually last a decade or longer with the same team. And the ones that do are the greats and have generally won at least ONE super bowl.

In fact, I bet there are very few head coaches that have lasted 10+ years with the same team without a super bowl win. Sometimes it’s just time to move on.

We all knew JR was following the Steelers model. Everything this team has done follows that.

It may or may not be Ron's time but that model and the success we've seen from it affords us guys like Scott who could and maybe should be THAT guy one day. Or if Cam is here you have options out there with HC experience like Chud.

This culture is bearing fruit.

Okay so it looks like the original public source of this was Josina Anderson.

She's not a random nobody, but she did have some recent drama with an Eagles report criticizing Wentz "anonymously" from a source. Supposedly that was Alshon Jeffrey, which she replied that the person who identified Jeffrey "didn't know who she talked to."

Until someone on the Panthers or Cam himself confirms, or there are pics of him in Chicago or Green Bay, I'll still doubt it and be hesitant to hop on the panic wagon.

Zero chance of this.

Anderson is the best foot/ankle guy in the world (used to be right over on Vail Ave. here in CLT until abt a year ago)....

....you don't bring him in after 7 weeks as part of a standard rehab program.

I feel bad for Cam.

He appeared very subdued on the sidelines of 49'ers game....think he knew there was a problem and realized he wasn't going to be able to get in there with his boys to help out any time soon.

Yeah, my initial take was this was not that great. I’m just careful to weigh both sides of the story before I slam the door on one side.

That’s why I’m being a little bit cautious with putting a rubberstamp on this, one way or another. Also would like to have seen some mention of the boot in her reporting, if indeed the source saw him at the airport. That would seem to be a pretty vital piece of information. I’m not even questioning her reporting, or source. I just know sources can be wrong.

okay. I thought that was it.

Still sounds like a lot of speculation with no real substance imho.

Like some twitter comments mentioned: Can Cam not get a direct flight, or even a private jet, to avoid these public "sightings?"

What fruit?

We're probably looking at our third consecutive season missing the playoffs and we're still searching for our first back to back winning seasons. All that the Panthers' culture has created thus far is a rollercoaster ride of intermittent success that has always come up short of the ultimate goal.

We can say that we've attempted to try to mirror the Steelers' model, but in retort I'd say that we've done a piss poor job of actually doing that and simply point to the team successes as evidence.

Cam Newton and KK out. The team went 4-1 so I don't see how coaches are being blamed here.

The Panthers have built one of the better coaching staffs on paper at least in the NFL, collegiate of sorts. With such a staff bringing in young talented coordinators learning under Rivera, Norv, Perry. Travell Wharton and Scott Turner come to mind.

This is an opportunity to continue a culture. This team despite what we say here, has enjoyed great success in the NFL through the years. You don't achieve that being hasty. Change?!? To what? To who? This is still the Panthers golden age.

I'm pretty sure the Panthers are the only NFL team that has never had back to back winning seasons. Any other teams? The new Browns? Terrible.

We aren't the Browns, Jets, Bucks, Dolphins, Chargers, better recent history than lots of teams. McDermott and Beane killing it in Buffalo. Two or more HOF locks in #89,#90,#59......#1.

Looks like if he landed in Chicago, he's likely still there due to delays in flights heading to Green Bay. Surely someone would recognize him and post publicly to confirm.

I get so tired of "sources."

I still don't 100% buy any of this.

Could be a final checkup before he returns to practice.

Again, zero chance.

Here's the question that should be asked of the Panthers --- why the f*** didn't Cam go see Dr. Robert Anderson in the first place?

The list of elite athletes who made the pilgrimage Dr. Anderson when he was based here in Charlotte is VERY long.  Derek Jeter, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, etc....

....the reason they made the trip -- Dr. Anderson is the best in the world.

By all rights if properly diagnosed Cam should be in the top-of-the-9th inning in his rehab process....

....in pitching parlance Dr. Anderson is multiple Cy Young winning MVP World Series Champion....

....you don't save that guy and bring him in in the top-of-the-9th....

....he should have been the starter and pitched a complete game 1-hitter.

Don't be surprised if mishandling of the diagnosis/treatment now enters the conversation in a meaningful fashion (hot topic w/ Redskins right now).

Now we know what Ron has been hiding....

....this one is now a day-night doubleheader.

(remember the "middle of his rehab" comment Ron made last week?)
