Most inconsistent player on the Panther D

The other team practices too. As much as I'd like to have seen Reid cut him in half, Tannehill does have the athletic ability to make guys miss.

A strip sack and a lot of solid tackles more than make up for that to me. Demanding perfection just isn't reasonable.

I didn't necessarily wanna see him cut Tannehill in half. Doing more than just waving at him as he passed by would have been nice, though.

Nobody's demanding perfection, but a bit more consistency sure wouldn't hurt, especially when we're talking about a veteran. At least with Donte Jackson you can say that he's young and still learning.

If Eric Reid would just wrap up when tackling he'd be one of the best players on our defense.

That being said, Donte Jackson is the most inconsistent player we have on the D.

Jackson is inconsistent largely because of youth and not knowing/understanding what is going on at times.

Reid is a different type inconsistent.  Think it is more effort at times on select plays.  Reid has the between the ears game on lock.

Again, not really knocking Reid.  He is good.  He could be dominant though in a way Jackson likely can’t yet (as he needs time/experience).

Eric Reid with 9 tackles, 1 sack, and a FF.

I would expect a thread like this to be made from BullCrap123 or EZUPantherFan but not from one of the better posters here in CRA.

You could argue that’s what makes him inconsistent. He will look spectacular One game or one play and then look lost. I never speak on it because a) any thread even remotely criticizing Eric Reid or Cam Newton turns into a toxic poo show and I want no part of it, and b) I don’t pretend to know the defensive scheme so thoroughly as to know whether it is player X’s fault for being out of position or if he was covering for Player Y who was out of position. Defensive players outside of pass rush can be very difficult to criticize individually, and even with pass rush you have to look at gap assignments, etc.

Either way I’ll take Reid in a heartbeat over any other option for us. He has done well. He looked bad against SF, but so did every single other player on the team in all 3 phases.

The point I am trying to make is, if it is a run, Eric is the last line of support. How many times have you seen Eric make the tackle in the run game. Bingo, almost every time or the CB has to make the tackle. Donte Jackson does not want contact (I need your help Eric Reid to make the tackle). James Bradbury will tackle, Cockrell will tackle but Jackson will not. Eric Reid is not inconsistent, he is used as a box safety for run support.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
