Ron may have had a reason for going "Riverboat" again

According to Joe Person in his latest Athletic article, last week's disastrous 49er game left Panthers owner David Tepper, quote, "livid".

From what I've seen of Tepper, I can imagine that seeing him blow his stack could probably be a little frightening, so I wouldn't really blame Rivera for having a little extra motivation today.

Person mentioned too that he got a "we'll see" response from Rivera when he asked about the possibility of putting Newton on IR.

Also regarding that quarterback question, there's this from Tre Boston...

“We love Kyle Allen. We love Cam Newton. Whoever’s there for us, we know we’re gonna get the job done,” said safety Tre Boston, who had his first INT of the season Sunday. “It’s amazing to have two great quarterbacks. When we go out there, play Tennessee and not worry about our quarterback situation. When next week we can go to the Packers and not care who’s at quarterback.”

Glad to hear Tepper wasn't lukewarm about the horrible loss last week. Regardless of how the qb situation shakes out, it's reassuring to hear we have an owner who isn't going to consider the status quo acceptable if the status quo looks like dog poo.

Tepper had every reason to be angry---coming off a bye, no adjustments, just standing there with his arms folded with that "I have no clue" look on his face....made me mad.

Basically, Ron counts on some stud to carry him.  They shut down Cam, Ron lost the game.  Shut down CMC, Ron loses.

*nods*

Say what you want about Bellicheat, and for my part I will say plenty. The man doesn't rely on his star qb to win for him. He goes out there and cheats his way to victory any way he can.

*mumbles*

Also sometimes he's just better at tactics than the other guy

Mother@#%er it hurt to have to say that!

From what I've read, the "Riverboat" call for the fake punt didn't come from the sidelines. It was an audible by Collin Jones himself.

I'm sure seeing Tepper livid was not a great feeling for Ron. I'd just caution connecting it to the fourth down call.

Is this real? Colin Jones is granted this sort of trust?

Unless we're in desperate need if that roster spot, it only makes sense to keep the option of Cam returning on the table.

We still have an open roster spot that we seem to be in no hurry to fill.

I can't remember if it was Person or Rodrigue, but one of them said the Panthers are just "waiting for the right fit" or until they have a need.

    • The preference for smallish NTs was bizarre to me. I mean, you're already looking for a bit of a unicorn with a NT anyway trying to find a guy who can consistently hold his ground against double teams. Now you want to find a smaller, quicker guy who can do it? Yeah, good luck with that...
    • Yep. I had 2 shoulder surgeries (same shoulder) in college. What you say is true because the joint is a ball-in-socket joint and not like a knee, which is a hinge joint.  Another reason (this from my orthopedic surgeon) it is more difficult to overcome is because people want and need to walk, so they are constantly rehabbing the knee.  You can protect the shoulder and avoid using it.  And you can play with a banged up shoulder because it does not reduce your game speed much.  As long as I kept my arm in tight (close to my rib cage) I was fine--but when I extended my arm, I felt vulnerable and it was weaker, it seemed. A shoulder issue was common with LBs.  I don't recall seeing a LB in the dressing room without a surgical scar on is shoulder.
    • F- pick. Taking a hurt RB is the dumbest thing a team starved for tallent could have done in the 2nd. As for planning for 2025, they could have just waited since he brought nothing to 2024. That entire argument that they were playing the long game is like such a copout, just admit it was busted from every angle. They bet poorly and lost. It was a dumb pick and a complete waste of a chance to pick up a meaningful player this team still desperately needs. Picks like that is why this team is picking top 10 ever y year.
