Cam is eligible to return in the playoffs, unlikely as that scenario would be

From Cam's perspective it doesn't make sense. He doesn't need any more bad tape out there as it hurts his contract negotiations.

That's true why would winning a playoff game help such a great year and half of football.

Let's take Cam's comments yesterday at face value, he plans on "working his tail off to be stronger, faster, smarter and more accurate".

To me that sounds like a QB eager to return to the game, not someone content to play it safe by watching from the sidelines.

Cam loves the spotlight and the playoffs would be his moment to shine, putting the difficulties of the past two years behind him.

A strong playoff performance would also showcase Cam's unique talents, silencing the nattering nabobs of negativism (at least a bit), while increasing his marketability.

I don't see Cam passing up this opportunity should it present itself.

Here's the problem with that theory.

Why go on injured reserve?

I do believe the options were discussed with him, and I also believe that he agreed to this. There's really been nothing to suggest otherwise.

Agreeing to this means that he can't practice with the team for at least six weeks. Yes, he can keep in shape on his own, but that's not the same as practicing with the team.

Igo asked it yesterday. Why do this if you really do believe there's a chance of returning?

It's a valid question.

Why in the hell would anyone have a problem with this? I don’t see Cam replacing Allen if he’s eligible to play during the postseason. That’d be dumb; however, if Allen gets injured or craps the bed Cam should be in the roster and given a go.

Guys, Cecil is calling the shots.  He is not going to let his kid do anything that might hurt his chances at getting contract #3.  There is no way in hell Cam will make an appearance in the playoffs.

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with that.

If his future is not with us, it'd be kind of selfish to ask him to do things that could potentially hurt his future chances somewhere else.

And honestly, in a scenario like that, going on injured reserve makes a lot more sense.

Admittedly, there are many things that would have to fall into place for Cam to return this post season.

His return to health and the Panthers making the playoffs being the most obvious of those.

However, stranger things have happened and the loss of Allen leaves the Panthers with a backup that has never started a single game, much less the playoffs.

I don't think having a healthy Cam dressed and ready to go on the sidelines come playoff time is beyond the realm of possibility.

After that, it is anybody's guess what might happen.

    • fuging Christ dude this isnt hard.  Like at all.  I get you simping for this poo team is your thing but sometimes you have to look at reality.   Even removing his bum knee from the equation, none of this made sense.  He is 31.  He has been paid handsomely for his service here.  He was currently under contract for this season.  Why in the holy fug did anything have to be done 2 weeks before the season started.   The people for this move, in this thread are saying A) He deserved it (this is the nfl it doesnt work like that  B) It frees up cap space (then why in the fug didnt we do this in Feb or C) You logic (We are getting a deal at 53 million guaranteed for the next 3 years.   You realize with this deal we cannot cut or trade his ass for 3 years.  You understand this right?   So in my opinion we should have let this ride into the offseason and go from there, what he is going to threaten to walk, big fuging deal he would be 32 on a chronically bad knee, what other moronic franchise is going to give him 40 million up front?  It wasnt going to happen.   And you are acting like its impossible to replace a 32 year old RT with a bum knee.  Just go and draft someone, move Icky to RT.  There are tons of options instead of extending this dude 2 weeks before the fuging season.  The truth is Morgan and the shitheads in the FO fell for this dudes crying act and got all sentimental and shelled out another ext.  We are a poverty ass franchise that doesnt act professionally
    • Amazing what the prospect of being traded to Carolina will do for contract negotiations.
    • 5 Im glad football is back but after the embarrassment that was the browns pre season game where our starting D made Sanders look like a serviceable NFL QB, I lost hope again for a successful Panthers campaign this year.  I do hope I’m wrong!
