Defending Rivera

Yup.

Some men subjugate their personal ethics to the whim of an agent (see Josh)....

....some don't (see CMC).

I’ve got some ocean front property in Colorado to sell you if you honestly think CMC won’t hold out for a new deal after we’ve pretty much rode him into the ground for two straight years.

Id honestly be disappointed in him if he didn’t. I don’t blame these players one bit for trying to get the money they have earned. They are all one freak play away from having their career ended. Best to get it while you can.

I don't think he will.

If he doesn't hold out I expect you to gift me the Colorado based ocean front property someone tricked you into at some point.

It was reported that team owner David Tepper was "livid" after the San Francisco game. This game wasn't the kind of humiliating blowout that game was, but the defense in this game was pretty terrible as well.

It's possible Rivera might have been able to survive one performance like that, but two horrible defensive showings within a few weeks of each other? I've got a feeling that proverbial seat is getting mighty warm.

Still, I know there are people who are fans. I've said elsewhere that I'm a fan of Rivera the person. Rivera the coach? Not so much.

But if you feel differently, I'll give you the chance to speak your mind here.

Defend keeping Rivera, if you can.

I'm a long time proponent of Ron Rivera, but as I said at the beginning of the season, only thing that will save Rivera is if he gets us to the playoffs this year.

That hasn't changed, even with Cam being out, because honestly the issue with the team right now isnt QB. its the defense which has been playing terrible lately and the offensive line.  now the o-line is playing about what you'd expect for a mash unit, in fact for the players we got out there I think the O-Line has done pretty good.  but the defense is inexcusable, seriously how can you not be able to stop the run? Our Defense has struggled for a couple years now, and the falls largely on Rivera for keeping Washington as his DC despite his total lacking the ability to be a DC.

With that said at the moment, I dont want some of our Coaches to go.

Chase Blackburn has been nothing short of amazing as our ST coordinator.

Norv Turner is probably in large part responsible for the development and play of Kyle Allen. Do you want Allen to have his Coordinator Switched at this critical juncture of his Development?  Especially considering that Cam is questionable for returning. I dont know how I feel about that

I want to keep our Offensive line coaches, Matsko and Wharton have actually done an excellent job this year of making Lemonade out of Lemons.

My biggest quam with the actual release of Rivera is who do you replace him with.  Unless its a clear cut improvement. I'd rather avoid experimentation.  And there isnt anyone out there right now that I feel like we need to go out there and get.  Only coach that kinda gets me interested is if Jim Harbaugh decides to come back to the NFL as his current stint at Michigan isnt going too well right now.

I've said before I'd want Dan Campbell.

With regard to the assistants, new coaches occasionally keep existing assistants, but it's rare.

I know Richardson asked Rivera to keep Sam Mills III. No idea whether Tepper would do that or not.

Interesting, but no experience as a Coordinator?  Not sure how I feel about that.

yeah even then I'm only luke warm on that at best.

What are your thoughts on Brian Schottenheimer?

His dad was one of those guys that could never quite get it done, though you can't put that on Brian.

My perception of him overall is that he's had a pretty up and down career. Some seasons people talk about him like he's the next big thing, others like he's lucky to have a job.

Don't recall seeing him mentioned yet in the head coach speculation articles for next year, but it's early.

I think he is gonna get some looks, really has the Seahawks offense rolling.  That’s why I brought him up. Plus he his dad was a really good coach even if he was garbage in the playoffs. But because his Dad was bad in the playoffs doesn’t mean he will be.

plus I think Marty Lives in Lake Norman still.

The immediate question will be how much of that is Russell Wilson.

    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
    • Aho and Jarvis just gripping it too tight right now. Relax, play their 200 ft game and the shots will start to find the net. Freddie has been excellent and welcome back Mista Svechnikov. Burns.....well, thank goodness for Slavin.
