I don’t trust Beene but I do like McD.  He was our best DC outside of Del Rio.  He’s younger more energetic.  Would have liked him here.

Coaching and GM wise, yes I agree. Having Beene and McDermott as our coach and GM would be a lot better better than RR and Hurney. Player wise not really. Players come and go for all teams in the NFL. Even though having Star in the middle would be nice. He was expensive though

tbh, most guys who get called "better coordinators than HCs" were actually just overrated as coordinators in the first place. they're guys who looked good as OC or DC due to a lucky streak, a strong talent core, a great system...or sometimes they've just pulled a jedi mind trick of sorts where we pretend they were great coordinators to make our criticism of their head coaching records look less one-note and more nuanced

there are exceptions... but rivera and garrett are not among them

Given that Rivera is supposed to have been running the defense since late last year, can we really even say that he's a great coordinator anymore?

Wade Phillips struggled when he was both head coach and defensive coordinator for the Cowboys, but did very well once he was able to focus on just the defense.

Understood, but you also have to remember that this was Rivera's choice.

There were capable defensive coordinators available, including some that had history with Rivera. He didn't go that route because he wanted to protect Eric Washington.

On top of that, the whole "hey I know, let's change defensive systems" thing was Rivera too.

I can't really place blame for the position he's currently in on anybody but him.

This is correct.  Unfortunately our poor fan base has been abused and scarred for so long some have developed Stockholm Syndrome.  We saw this with Fox until 2010 and that was JRs doing.  Rivera was set up to fail with Marty running things.  Proved by our 3 consecutive Division titles and playoff appearances under a real GM. Who was then fired and replaced by Hurney.  How Ron survived this long is at least some sign of the intelligence you alluded to elsewhere.

Yeah, but my point was he could still be a great defensive coordinator, albeit likely for someone else.

I remember when the know nothings here kept saying poo like "yall are just fans they know what they are doing" when we kept saying all the obvious poo about the team and still they'd say poo like "I'd like to see you  do better". Welp Buffalo proving many of us correct in regards to Beane and McDermott. BTW our GM is Marty Hurney roflmao....still makes me laugh for real out loud until my stomach hurts.
