Rivera was a Cam guy?

The guy who benched him for not wearing a tie

The guy who said, "he would have taken a shot", when Cam was getting multiple concussions a game

Yeah no

Rivera ruined Cam with his disregard for his health

Yeah, the dude who gambled on him with his career was a Cam guy.

And to be a good HC you gotta show the locker room no one is untouchable.   And yeah, Ron was stating a fact.  It is also how you look out for guys in the future.  Cam did deserve to get drilled in the end zone by the Falcon.  A good coach would call out Cam on the obvious to help him down the road.

Ron let Cam be Cam.  Which is the way it was supposed to be.  The way Cam has REPEATEDLY voiced that he wanted it.  Cam Newton didn’t want to play like Aaron Rodgers.  Ron let him be Cam.  And we saw greatness at times because of it.

Ron needed to go.  But attempting to villianize Ron is beyond dumb

New coach/gm will decide on Cam.  I find it hard to believe a decision on Cam has been made.

Cam has power to make his own decision too.  So he can take that out of their hands

I think most players are gonna take this news on a sour note.

They are underperforming and have been all year

i don’t care what they think or do

they can make an interception and go pose for a picture with their great record

if they loved Ron so much, should have played for him

I don't think he retires.

Not saying he retires.  He has the power to decide if he wants to be a Panther and he can force their hands.

He can simply say he is done here and wants to be traded.  He has power there.  Teams will want him.  He has value.  If they don’t? He sits and gets super healthy.....and Carolina gets diddly squat for a MVP caliber player that the goes elsewhere

I think Cam stays if the new coach and GM give him a huge endorsement publicly after they meet him. I hope it all works out.

Because of Ron (and hiring of Shula to OC from 13-17) the Panthers truly wasted some of Cam's prime years and risked the longevity of his career.

Ron feared hiring a more qualified OC because he feared the OC would replace him. That decision was why a potential superstar never truly came to be. Just really good with a great year.

By the time he got the upgrade in Norv  and the talent on the outside it was too late. His body was already damaged and the Oline became a disaster.

Do you think Cam will play on his current contract?  If not, he'll need more than a public endorsement to stick around, and I think the new Panthers management will need to do a lot more than just to meet him to decide what they'd do with him.

I hope Cam returns happy and healthy to the team next year, but worried that his injury history will prevent that.

Cam has *no* leverage here at all.

Cam is under contract next year.  Cam can choose to hold out, sure.  But that certainly doesn't help him.  He's a 31 year old QB who hasn't been fully healthy in three years.  If he holds out and never reports, he ends up a Panther in 2021 because he didn't fulfill his contract.  Then he's a 32 year old QB who hasn't played in two years coming off three years of shaky health.  That doesn't scream "big contract" to me.

So he holds out and shows up late, just in time to say he fulfilled his contract . . . I think that's sometime before the 8th game.  So now you have a QB who hasn't had any reps, in a new offensive system (presumably) coming off multiple injury plagued seasons and not in football shape coming to the table for a team that will be vastly different and doesn't know him?  Come on.  Does that sound like "success" to you?

The bottom line is that if the Panthers want him, he'll be here next year.  He has a lot to prove.  I like Cam.  I think his career has been wasted by a coaching staff that wanted to coddle him instead of develop him.  But the bottom line is the Panthers hold the cards.
