Incredible... Wait, I meant "very good"

First Simms doesn't really pay attention to the Panthers and Rivera. He pays attention to the myth but not the reality.

Like he didn't realize that as good and respected Rivera is considered, he had only had 3 winning seasons.

In the same way he thinks that hurney always has stout lines and doesn't get pushed around. Further evidence he's not paying attention.

I did like that they brought up the assumption that Rivera will find a job right away. People thought the same thing about Holmgren, yet here he sits unemployed still even though he's probably a stronger candidate than Rivera with a much better record.

So what is the problem? Teams are looking for younger, more progressive coaches. They are also looking more at offensive coaches willing to build be a team with a young QB. With the exception of Holmgren being an offensive coach, that makes both guys undesirable dinosaurs as far as a lot of teams are considered.

The assumption that Ron will have no problem getting another HC job doesn't take into account the direction most teams are wanting to go, which isn't too far from the direction Tepper wants to go.

Ron might get a job quickly, but it's far from the sure thing a lot of people make it out to be.

Yeah, I caught that from Simms too. I was like "what?" :)

To be clear though, did you mean Holmgren or McCarthy?

See I told you that you ascribe behaviors to others you possess yourself. You said I would say nah, unh, thats you. And you just did the same thing. Nah, just you. So predictable it is funny.

"Nuh uh, that's you" would mean "That's what you do, not me".

"Nah, just you" means, "You're the only person I think that about".

So sorry, wrong again :)

And I'm bored now, so unless you've actually got something interesting to discuss...

There you go. My nah uhn, thats you is different than your nah just you. And tell me again how only I go back and forth with posters about what was said. Two things. It takes two to argue and you always seem up to the challenge. And secondly most people who say they are bored all the time are that way, because they are usually boring themselves.

I started a thread as a joke a few days ago about me hoping we just kept Hurney for first round draft picks, it's looking like a reality now.

Man, should have hoped Tepper would give me $500k, I aint greedy!

Well, to be fair, it looks like he'll be limited to the whole draft. I support you in your effort to get paid by Tepper though (as long as you share).

What interests me also is I think if you're a current member of the scouting staff or the personnel department, ya gotta be a little nervous right about now (funk soul brother).

Fair enough. Throw Andy Reid in there and you've got triplets.

Curious. What'd you think of Tepper's gaffe?

Yeah Reid made for the trifecta there.

But Tepper backpedaling there....it was funny. I think he wants hurney to be incredible, but he understands that upon further inspection, he ain't all that and even in the areas that he does well in, he's replaceable. Hurney is a safe option to keep around for the draft, but if Tepper can find someone who can do it better, he's going to pull the trigger.

Yeah, even in the Voth interview his phrasing was "not a bad manager" (a "damning with faint praise" kind of line).

Looking at it now, I expect Hurney and staff will be around through the draft, but in that capacity only. After that? Up in the air.

Notable that after the draft is when Kevin Colbert's contract expires.

Coincidence?

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
