Wade Philips?

NFL Network's Michael Silver has heard from "multiple sources" that a "shakeup" is expected for Sean McVay's coaching staff this offseason.

The Rams underachieved greatly in 2019, following up last year's Super Bowl loss to New England by missing the playoffs altogether. As is usually the case when teams fall well short of expectations, the Rams are sure to face consequences for this year's failure with coaching and personnel changes both distinct possibilities. Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips appears to be a goner while even workhorse back Todd Gurley is no lock to return in 2020. Seeming supplanted by the 49ers and Seahawks in the NFC West, L.A.'s title window is dangerously close to slamming shut.

Anybody want him as our DC next year? Get a offensive mind for our HC and get Wade to man our D and we could have a respectable year next year. I thought it was interesting to read that all but one of the defenses Wade Phillips has coached has improved in his first season on the job. Not to mention he kicked our ass in the superbowl. Would not mind at all if we brought him in.

He has long been associated with 34 D's.  Maybe he could help us figure out what we want to run since our potpourri defense has not worked out so well

Exactly what I was thinking. If Tepper is keen on keeping this 3-4 defense, then bringing in Wade who excels in 3-4 would be perfect for us. Wouldn't have to change our defensive philosophy yet again and could keep focusing on the 3-4.

Depends on HC ...but Wade can coach 4-3...

    • I do think the rating is fair given how this unit hasn’t proven it with production. I understand you have to rank off production, not potential. However, our unit is also in a position to make this rating look foolish a year from now. We have 4 guys in the WR/TE room who all could legitimately take the next step this year, and catapult our rank. A guy under a lot of people’s radar after we took Tet, Jalen Coker. Mark my words, he will become the star of this room, and be the heir to Thielen.
    • Exactly. You’d think 2-7 wins a year (in a 17 game season no less) since 2017 is going to keep us bottom tier. Every year we say the same poo like we haven’t been a bad team the past 7 years. Until we prove we aren’t a bottom dweller, that’s where we’ll stay ranked. God forbid we have OL injuries like 2016.
    • What I love and hate about this team is it’s more filled with potential breakout players than ever before. JT, XL, Coker, Smith-Wade, Ikem, Trevin… and even Bryce are all guys I could legitimately see taking the next step. But the problem with having so many of those guys is that team success somewhat relies on them taking that step, and some are bound not to. That being said, I’m cautiously optimistic given our softer schedule, the way the offense clicked late last year, and the direction we finally have at GM, coach, and QB. Could see us as a sneaky playoff team.
